My Second Favorite Team

Like most of you who read this blog, I live and die with the Nets.  During the season, it seems like there are so many highs and so many lows.  It feels like I age 10 years during a close Nets’ game, and at the end I am both mentally and physically (I tend to jump up and down and yell) exhausted.  I am willing to go through all of this though, because the Nets are in fact my favorite team, the team that I root for.

Earlier this week, the big wigs of the TrueHoop Network asked us about our second favorite team, and it got me thinking about the purpose of a second favorite team and which team is in fact my 2nd favorite team:

The beauty of having a second favorite team is that when you watch them play, you don’t have to be emotionally invested in the game at all.  You can just sit back, watch the game, and enjoy the beauty of the game.   This is why the Golden State Warriors are the perfect “second favorite” team.  With a roster full of young athletic freaks, most notably Monta Ellis, Anthony Morrow, and Anthony Randolph, this team was built to fit in Don Nelson’s “run & gun” system.  Throw rookie Stephen Curry, who in my opinion is so much fun to watch work off of the ball, into the mix and you got a team you can get behind.  These guys will run up the score without even thinking twice about playing defense, and their coach isn’t even bothered by it, as long as they take the ball out of the hoop quickly.  If the Golden State Warriors were my favorite team, that would make me pull my hair out, but they are not, they are my second favorite team.

What do you guys think?  Do any of you guys have a second favorite team?  If so, for what reasons?  Or am I wrong?  Is it completely blasphemous to enjoy watching another basketball team?  Please leave your opinions in the comments.

As much as I love the nets, i do also love the jazz. I've seen them live twice, once in NJ and once in Utah. I love boozer and when I heard he may come to jersey i freaked, but that may not happen. Also deron is more fun to watch than cp3.

my second favorite team is the trailblazers. I loved Roy out of college and just really enjoy watching the team. With League Pass I tend to sit and watch the Blazers just about as much as I watch the Nets but as you said, without any kind of emotional connection to the team.

My second favorite team is definitely the san antonio spurs. They're good guys in a class organization, who will do whatevet it takes to win. I dunno bout every else, but i loved that spurs pistons finals. Most say that slow, grind it out style was boring, but i loved the back abd forth between the two, no one was giving in.

my second favorite team is the Dallas Mavericks because of my favorite player hands down all time Jason Kidd the guy who watching him play got me into basketball. i probably dont yell and jump up and down as much for the Mavs then the Nets ( which i do a lot of jumping and yelling for) because the Nets are always going to be my # 1 team. my third team is the Lakers cause Kobe is still the man and they are going to repeat and im going to be happy watching it but if the Mavs were able to win with Kidd paying the point i would be a thousand times happier to see Kidd finally get his

Of course I have a second favorite team! The beauty of the 2nd fave, is that it can change from time to time, mostly depending on the players and/or the personalities on the team. Over time it's been the 76'ers (although when Dr. J went there they were my numero uno and through the Barkley years), the Pacers, the Heat, the Suns and the Spurs. Right now I'd say the Magic is my 2nd fave mainly because of VC... Hope they win it all, if the Nets don't (haha). If VC were still a Net, my 2nd fave would be the Heat because of D Wade, and, oh yeah, because Alonzo isn't playing anymore.
