While I know this entry was not solely about Alonzo Mourning, the comments seem to be about him. You all already know, I think what Zo did was the worst breach of contract by an athlete ever. In an earlier post, I wrote "Regarding [Carter's] Toronto years, granted it ended ugly, but he gave his blood, sweat, and knees to that organization for SEVEN years! I always say what Alonzo Mourning did to the Nets was far far worse... We signed him to a huge contract after his kidney transplant when no one really knew what kind of NBA player he could still be; he never committed to the team, bitched and moaned his way out within a year and told the Nets and their fans to kiss his blahblahblahs… I do not understand why sports reporters and writers and all have never really taken him to task for that." Worst ever. You want me to tell him? I'll tell him...

Steve - I always had pretty strong feelings about the 'Zo situation. The Nets took a very big risk giving him the contract they did, and I think most seemed to understand it was done with the idea that it would help retain Jason Kidd. Yes, Mourning's health was a real, real concern that he needed to deal with so I'm not saying the guy should have suited up with kidney disease. Just don't like how he came back, played like a slug, was traded, and then was suddenly reborn on Miami backing up Shaq. There needs to be some loyalty out there if a team is willing to throw a long-term commitment at you, despite it being perfectly known that you're a big injury risk.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who can't stomach all the praise on Zo...I'm not saying he's a bad guy or anything, but he ruined one team and quit on another (can you quit something you never started? whatever) and it drives me nuts that winning a title and beating kidney disease seem to have erased that from his bio.
