Quick Recap: Orlando Magic 97, New Jersey Nets 87

The Orlando Magic jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as they never trailed the New Jersey Nets, winning 97-87 at the Izod Center tonight.

  • Statistically, Brook Lopez held his own against Dwight Howard tonight in the match-up of elite Eastern Conference centers. Brook finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 1 block and Dwight finished with 11 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks.
  • The Nets got killed from long-range tonight, allowing 13 threes to Orlando, who shot 42 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Yi Jianlian finished with 2 points and 5 fouls in 33 minutes of play.
  • Another strong night for Terrence Williams off the bench, who finished with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Trenton Hassell, meanwhile, finished with 4 points in 18 minutes as a starter. He’s starting because…?
  • It what will be his last game at the Izod Center, Vince Carter finished with 13 points on 4-11 shooting.

I have been at a loss as to why Hassel is even in the NBA, much less been a starter for the Nets under two coaches. He, like Eduardo Najera before him, I see as solely a late half or end of game defensive, rebounding, foul-giving sub. Now that T-Will is really hitting his stride, START HIM!!!

oh i would need to go rewatch it then...just had impression yi was guarding lewis, i'll check again

can't just hate on Yi every single game. Despite a terrible night statistically, Yi actually played good defense today. And there is no way hassel and play the 4, he would be undersized against just about every PF out there.

and yes hassell may not be the most athletic guy out there, but i believe his intentions have been to encourage his team to drive to the basket by leading by example (it's not like his jumpshots are very good anyways).

Really? Great defense by Yi? Well, which player wasn't guarding Barnes in the first quarter when he scored 14 points in 6 minutes because Trenton was dealing with Lewis and Brook was on Dwight?

At this point, I'd rather have Hassell at the 4 and start TWill. Because Yi is literally the worst player I have ever seen. His real-life PER has to be less than 3. Ridiculous.

100% agree with @Randy T-Will needs to start, and B-Lopez needs to stop trying to do everything himself.

Hassel needs to take a seat, he really was forcing up shots like he was Kobe. Twills taking it to the rim like dwade. Blo let his ego take over, which led to a horrible night. Start twill.

Nuff said

Brook was absolutely dominated, at one point he was like 3/11 FGs or something. Then he hit like 3 corner jumpers to bulk his stats up.
