Quick Recap: New Jersey Nets 90, Toronto Raptors 100

It was a tale of two halves once again (surpise, surprise) and the Nets went from having a three point lead in after 2 quarters to trailing by ten after three.  That ended up being the difference in the game as they lost 100-90:

  • So this Chris Bosh fellow is pretty good.  His mobility and outside shot making ability makes him a tough match-up for Brook Lopez, and he showed why as he finished with 36 points (on 27 shots) and 8 rebounds.
  • Brook Lopez himself had a pretty solid game, finishing with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Yi struggled in his return, going 3-10 and only finishing with 9 points.
  • Courtney Lee was covering Hedo most of the game, and you could see that his focus was on the defensive end tonight.  Only three shots (hitting 1), but he held Turkoglu to 13 points on 13 shots and stopped a 3-1 fast break all by himself.
  • Jarvis Hayes put together a terrific effort today, and it seems that he is pretty comfortable coming off the bench.
  • The Nets went from attacking the basket in the first half to standing outside and shooting jumpers in the second half.  Story of the season.

Chuck, I agree that Lee needed to get a lot more involved offensively. The Nets seem to play best when he is, but they cant just use him as a defensive specialist, because he really isn't.

I've been harping on this on other boards, but did anyone else think it was a bad idea for the NETS to play highlights on the jumbo tron of Kidd, RJ, & VC knocking the Raptors out of the 2007 playoffs. Bosh watched the whole thing from his bench during that timeout. It's the guy's most crushing moment as a pro. Did the NETS really need to give him any extra motivation to come out and kick our butts in the second half? I don't know, that didn't make any sense to me. Our team is already struggling enough as it is. Thoughts?

Alright Jack, have the Nets bench him and put CDR or Terrence Williams into the starting SG position. The result will be the same for these players as well. CDR is not being put in position to lead this team, the higher powers have no faith in him, can't say I blame them and I do believe Terrence Williams will be a really good player in the near future. That being said, the problem is not Courtney Lee. You say he is hurting the team, but if you will look at the game tonight, how many shots did he take...3. He is a shooting guard, he is supposed to take more shots. In 23 minutes of playing time he scores 2 points and while he is out there, the other team scores 18 points, so he goes -16 on the night...not very good. How do you raise that ratio? Take more shoots. Courtney thrives when he is allowed to pull the trigger more often, I don't know what has changed over the last couple of games. If anything, the Nets have put too much faith in Devin Harris. Sure he is very good player, but he often tries to do too much. He doesn't play like a point guard but rather like a shooting guard. The Nets must get someone who is a real star if they are going to correct the misstakes of this season.

Nearly everytime he busts his butt and stops a fast break? Oh please, barely a difference between him and others. Almost everyone else on this team gives a damn about the team as much as Courtney, so dont go making up bull that you don't know is true. And it's not like his +/- offensive/defensive stats on the ECF Magic last year were good either. In fact he made them worse on both ends.
Unless you can provide anything not subjective about his defense then I wouldn't comment. According to you the only reason his defense is good is because he "busts his butt to try and stop a fast break". Like I said, who doesn't?

And of course his TO numbers are lower then the rest of the team, he's an off-guard spot-up shooter who doesn't control the ball nearly as much as others.

There's alot to be said about actual, good defense. Basing Lee's numbers on the defensive end by the listed -7 is stupid. Look at the rest of the team's numbers and you will notice similarities. How many times does Courtney bust his butt to try and stop a fast break? Nearly everytime. How many times is it his fault that the break happened in the first place? Courtney does not turn the ball over like others. Stop hating on players that actually give a crap if the team sucks or not. Oh and as for "the +/-'s he's gained" comment Jack, why don't you look at the rest of the team's as well. It's called losing all the time. If you lose, unless you play only a few minutes and you lead your team on a 9-0 run and then the coach takes you out, you're going to have a negative game ratio!

Yi blocked Antoine Wright, may the better bust win.

ZING!

No way we can go 3-10, we should just hope to at least tie the record...

I dont understand why u love Lee so much and give him pregame advantages in these past 5 games where hes getting badly destroyed. His defense is not nearly anything good enough (actually i don't even think its good at all, for some reason to me it looks like hes got a hard time dealing against picks then most other players. The defensive stats for him show that he actually makes his team worse by -7 on the defensive end, and with all the negative +/-'s hes gained in the last several games, it's bound to get worse come the next 82games stat update) to make up bad offensive nights.
I think even Kiki can see this a bit, which is why Lee didnt get as much minutes tonight.
