Quick Recap: New Jersey Nets 83, Chicago Bulls 106

The Nets had their winning streak (still feels funny to say) snapped tonight against the Chicago Bulls with a 106-83 loss.  The Bulls jumped on the Nets early, taking a 16 points halftime lead and not looking back.

  • No Net was really able to get into a flow, but Yi showed glimpses early.  However, he picked up his 2nd foul after 3 minutes, and never really got back into the game.
  • Brook Lopez struggled with a 2-11 night for 7 points.
  • The “other guys” were able to beat up on the Nets as Taj Gibson put up a career high 22 points (16 in the first half), and Jannero Pargo scored 27.
  • The Nets cut the lead to 7 in the third quarter as Jarvis Hayes went on a personal 9-0 run, but that was the closest they got as the Bulls pulled away and beat the Nets by 10 in the third.
  • The Nets actually shot pretty well from 3 (10-22), but they allowed the Bulls to outshoot them going 7-13 (better than 50%).

Yi will never be the kind of power forward the Nets need. As Dave D said, we don't need a stretch PF, we need a moose. And this "Yi can get rebounds when he tries" comment, are you serious? When he does, it's because defenses dive on Lopez, he takes forced shots and Yi reaps the benefits on the glass. Yi simply does not have the necessary feel for the game to help the team. How many times have you seen another team's 'soft' PF just rip the ball away from Yi? And kudos to the person who said Kiki is basically braindead for actually wanting to continue with Yi, if anybody should be turned off, it should be the guy who's watched him up close and personal

*I guess Yi is not a terrible defensive rebounder, but he sure isnt great at it. Regardless, he is not a player who has shown any signs he can be productive in the near future

Im sorry, but three point range doesn't make up for a player who can't pass, rebounds terribly for position, shoots terribly other than the three (and he barely shoots the three) and does not get any blocks or steals(which doesn't even begin to tell the story about how awful of a defender he is). In essence he has one skill (his three point shot), and he has only shot 34 of them this year, so he can't even be too confident he would keep this up if he were to shoot lots of threes.

By almost any advanced statistical measure, Yi is a complete and utter failure. If he is a player getting any amount of significant minutes next year, this team will not being improving as much as it should be next year

and on a slightly related note, I have to agree with Sebastian that Boone should replace Humphries on the depth chart. Humphries' has been about as (un)productive as Boone has been on the offensive end, meaning a few free throws/game off pick and rolls (which he doesn't hit at a high clip). On the defensive end, Boone seems more consistent.

i don't quite agree...the other jon. Yi is only like what, 22 years old? I would agree with Kiki that this experiment is not quite over. I am not saying we don't look at PF free agents this summer; we should, since we are trying to have one of the biggest turnout season in NBA history, but that does not mean we have to stop the Yi experiment.

I am not saying Yi is playing well, which he obviously isn't. His biggest problem is consistency, not lack of potential. And he seems to be a good rebounder when he puts his heart into it (like beginning of tonight's game, even though his lapse of defense caused him 2 early fouls). So I am saying that Yi has shown enough potential to guarantee a spot on the bench and continue to be given chances to prove himself. After all, there are very few reasonably mobile 7 footers who can shoot 3's.

"One thing either he or his replacement will have to deal with is whether the Nets should continue their plan to pair Brook Lopez and Yi Jianlian upfront. Sounds like Thorn is ready to move on, while Kiki Vandeweghe, citing the Pistons game, thinks the experiment's still worth pursuing."

And it are things like this that tell me that Kiki needs to be let go RIGHT after the season. If he honestly think looking at Yi is a worthy option... I mean wow I just don't even know what to say

Note to the Nets:
Play DEFENSE
SPACE OUT THE FLOOR
DONT POST UP YI OR THE HUMP
DONT LET JARVAS OR LEE RUN THE PICK ND ROLL
DONT GIVE THE BALL TO YI OR BROOK WITH 6 SECONDS LEFT ON THE SHOT CLOCK

lastly, y do our bigs always feel the need to set a pick every time sumone gets the ball.Let our swings do things one on one once and a while.
