A Chris Douglas-Roberts Trade & Greg Monroe Adds More Crazy To The Past 12 Hours

At around noon today, I was on The Basketball Jones’ live mock draft (yeah, I am still bragging about that) talking about how Derrick Favors to the Nets was pretty much a sure thing.  After that, the crazy started.  First, there were multiple reports that the Nets were leaning towards drafting Syracuse SF Wesley Johnson.  That has now seemed to settle down, with some reports saying that Johnson is simply just in the conversation with Derrick Favors.

With things starting to become relatively calm once again, Dave D’Alessandro decided to shake things up again with his report that he put out tonight around 10.  Apparently Cousins is now out of the conversation:

“Cousins has great hands and great feet, and he knows how to play,” Thorn said. “But you know, it’s a leap of faith there to suggest that he can play the 4. He can shoot the ball well, and he can face the basket. But I don’t think he’ll take it from 20 feet and go by people, and defensively it could be even more of a problem.”

In their internal discussions, the Nets have concluded that in spite of Cousins’ great talent, it would be very hard for him to complement Brook Lopez as the full-time power forward unless he trimmed down to 265 pounds — and he might have enough trouble getting down to 275.

So things simplified?  Not so fast, there is now a new big man that the Nets are considering.  His name is Greg Monroe:

It just means Thorn is in the mood to confuse everybody by suggesting that Greg Monroe of Georgetown is now also in the mix.

“We like Monroe a lot,” Thorn said, when reviewing his short list today. “He’s a lot different than Derrick Favors. He has an all-around game — left hand, right hand, great size. So I don’t think you (eliminate him) by any stretch. Monroe’s looking very good to us.”

That’s not the only news made tonight either.  Chad Ford is reporting in his newest post to the TrueHoop blog that the Nets have dealt Chris Douglas-Roberts to the Bucks for a second round pick:

Finally, it looks like the Bucks aren’t done dealing. This afternoon they traded Dan Gadzuric and Charlie Bell to the Warriors for Corey Maggette. Now sources say that the Bucks and Nets are in serious negotiations on a deal that would send Chris Douglas-Roberts to the Bucks for a second round pick. With the addition of Maggette and Douglas-Roberts, you have to wonder if the Bucks may look at something other than a wing with the No. 15 pick in the draft.

That puts this CDR tweet in perspective now.  10 hours ago, he tweeted:

Got news for yall later! Yall ready for this??? Ahhahaaahaha. I jus can’t hide it. FTD. Yes yess! FTD yes yess!

FTD meaning Fear The Deer.  Well then.  I have never denied Chris Douglas-Roberts talents, and I think when he wants to be, he is one of the better pure scorers in the NBA.  To me, it just seems that the Nets were fed up with his off the court issues and were getting rid of him anyway (the Nets had until late in the month to decide whether or not they wanted to pick up his option) and they took what they could get for him, and that was a second round pick.  The Nets now have four picks in this draft (two first rounders and two second rounders).

There has been a lot of action over in Nets-land, and the draft isn’t even until Thursday, so don’t expect for everything to be over and done with (especially with the four picks the Nets have).  Hold on guys, this is going to be a wild ride…

i like CDR so i hope it goes well for him in Milwaukee.

is it the bucks 37th pick or 47th pick?

@Mike from the "real" Mike. Can you please change your tag. If not I will change mine. It's very confusing. Thanks... You are right about Johnson/Boozer being a ploy, at least I hope your right. LOL

The combination of Johnson/Boozer makes no sense to me, it has to be a ploy to get Minnesota to trade up. Johnson/Boozer are both soft and are poor defenders.

Also remember Boozer was a second rounder - we could get someone like him if we're lucky with this pick ;)

Amare and Boozer will be HUGE FA busts if someone signs them to a max. Neither one plays solid D and they both have injury issues. Bosh would be a dream come true for the Nets. I just hope we don't let our impatience get us into signing a crappy Max guy like Joe Johnson or Rudy Gay.

Good riddance CDR, more PT to go around and see if Twill has anything at the NBA level or if Courtney Lee can bust out with a health Devin Harris.

@mike apparently crawford is in the mix for the nets at 37 if hes there

The one thing that could give Favors an edge is that he is an excellent defender (even though his offense is unpolished) and the little general is all about defense and being tough. I dont think Udoh is any better offensively than Favors to be honest and doesnt offer the same upside. I would love to see the Nets some how grab Crawford with their second pick.

Just a gut feel, but for some reason I think Thorn & Co may have something up their sleeves. Will be very interesting to see how the next months unfolds.

I have heard nothing about Bosh being interested in NJ, but man if Philly actually went big like they should in my opinion with Cousins and they can get Evans and Bosh...well...a guy can dream can't he!

I agree on Boozer. You just cannot commit that kind of money to an older (not that 29 is old) player who has a history of injuries. It will only get worse which is one reason I like Lee as a fallback. He won't command the same dollars as say Amare and doesn't have the "WOW" factor, but he will get you similar numbers, wont complain, and isn't and hystorically isn't injury risk

Wesley Johnson is ready to be a good player in the NBA right now. Derrick Favors isn't ready, Cousins doesn't fit, Monroe isn't as good but fits better..

At this point, shouldn't the Nets trade down and get Udoh? The guy is what we're really clamoring for, a PF with a big defensive presence who will have time to get better on offense while Brook and Devin are taking the bulk of the shots. If we trade down we can get some extra picks, which for some reason the Nets seem in a big hurry to acquire.

The only other option I see is for the Nets to send every single one of their picks to Washington for #1.

Word over at netsdaily from a poster via chad ford is Johnson and Boozer have the same agents and if they take Johnson Boozer is a done deal. Personally no thanks like him less than Amare. Either way I think we make a mistake if we don't get BPA at 3 and I think that will still be our move.

@Mike we finally agree on something :P.

@Mike - I don't disagree with you, but Thorn and Co. have been flirting with Amare for three straight seasons now. If the Nets are convinced they are going to get a PF in free agency - convinced enough to trade down or take a lesser caliber player at the third pick, I'm going to bank on their guy being Amare.

Please, please tell me the Nets wont sign Amare! The guy plays 0 defense, was badly outplayed and outrebounded by Lamar Odom in the playoffs and is a serious injury risk. I would love to see him go to the Knicks and ruin them for another 10 years. Bosh would be great (although I think its highly unlikely), and I think Lee would be a solid contributor whose high energy could be contagious and woudl certainly be appreciated by Nets fans. If they are sure they can get Bosh or Lee I think they go with Wesley who can contribute immediately.

Well if you believe Mike Francesca, who is the pope after all, Stoudemire is "in the bag" for the Nets.

i love the drafttttttttt lol

I have no idea what is going to happen it feels like a soap opera with twists and turns every moment I can't wait for draft night, btw Chris bosh not David lee bosh seems interested in the nets all if the sudden

Nets should take W. Johnson with their 3rd pick and sign D.Lee.

Dear Mr. Thorn--
Jesus H. Christ on an onion roll!!! Just say it's Favors and stop screwing with us!
Sincerely,
calling all toasters

One thing NAS hasn't really explored too much is who we would select with our other draft picks. In particular, the second round. Who would we get with the Bucks' 2nd rd?

Monroe is fine, if u trade down. CDR will never be gone, as the Nets will be drafting virtually the same player in the second round.
