Nets on the Net: LeBron Coming? Colangelo Not Interested?

Hey guys – with about 500 things going on with this team right now, I thought I’d bring back the fuller a.m. link dump rather than the single links I’ve been doing since the season ended in April. However, I urge you guys to comment on the news that way you have been with the daily links:

So, one of the biggest things about Mikhail Prokhorov signing on to the Nets was this idea that with his money, charisma and business drive, he could change the decades-old negative perception around the organization. And if you read this morning news about LeBron James and his free agency plans, Prokhorov could be enough to snag the world’s most coveted free agent. Al Iannazzone reports that Prokhorov and co. will be the first to make their pitch to James once free agency opens later this week.  The Frank Isola/Mitch Lawrence Daily News New York Knick cheerleaders CONTINUE to dismiss this notion that LeBron would never sign with the Nets because it would involve this horrifying notion of playing 10 minutes outside of NYC in Newark for 2 years before moving to Brooklyn (I’m still waiting for a non-speculative report from someone who is not Isola that explains to me how two years of Newark and three years of Brooklyn could damage LeBron’s marketability compared to him just playing at the World’s Most Famous Arena for the World’s Most Embarrassing Owners in the Dolans). However, Iannazzone quotes someone close to LeBron saying:  “He’s coming to New Jersey.” While that source is about as reliable as Jalen Rose telling people he’s 100% certain LeBron might leave Cleveland, there’s food for thought there.

Meanwhile, in one of the most rational pieces I’ve read yet on LeBronmania, Steve Politi of the Star-Ledger weighs the pros and cons of Newark.

Dave D’Alessandro reports the Nets might have to give up a piece of their young core (Devin, Courtney or TWill) in order to shed some of their dead financial weight (Yi) to make a run at two max free agents.

Sam Arnick of Fanhouse chides the Nets for not having a “plan B” in place with Rod Thorn leaving on July 15. Meanwhile, top candidate Jerry Colangelo says he doesn’t know anything about being in line to replace Thorn.

Did Russian spies push Rod Thorn out of the organization?

Former coach of the year Sam Mitchell has been taken on as one of Avery Johnson’s assistants while Tom Barrise and John Loyer have also been retained as assistants.

Sam, to some players who are older and already realize that their money making abilities have already dilapidated (athleticism as the primary peak point), they stop focusing on how much money and their legacy in the league.

How much better would it be to tell people that when people introduce you, it's with "2 Time NBA Champion" or "4 Time All-Star" or even "Hall of Famer." Most players want to be greater and winning titles is the key.

Also, players who chase money also go bankrupt quicker because the greed never leaves. See Antoine Walker.

I don't get this whole 'sign two max guys' garbage. What happens when you have to pay Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah? Where do you get the money to hire a halfway decent center to guard the guys Noah and Bosh can't?

Most importantly, what self-respecting player is going to take the minimum wage, PERIOD, to play with these guys? The role players have to pay their bills and raise a family, too, so are these 4 monsters going to play with a bunch of dead bodies around them?

WTF is going on with the Chicago Bulls first they sign a coach while his team was still in the playoffs now it looks like they signed the two biggest free agents before july 1st when teams can start talking to FA. I bet the NBA won't even look into this beccause it is the Bulls. Such Bull shit.

Prepare for Plan B

K-mart.. hell no.
RJ- maybe. but he has a 17 million dollar contract option for next season.. only a total moron would decline that.. lol

How about K-Mart and RJ they are both FAs and we can bring them back for only a few years each. K-Mart would be perfect for Favors.

Reasons LeBron signs with Nets that no one is talking about:
--
1. YES Network is only local sports network that is internationally broadcasted and also owned-by/home-to world's biggest sports franchise behind Man-U; the Yankees (LBJ's favorite team). Even his locally-broadcasted games will be available globally (and marketed side-by-side with Yankees).
--
2. Derrick Favors is the quentisential sign-and-trade piece. He is a top prospect at the same position we want top FA at, and that is always the departing teams' biggest lure in such deals. No one else has that plus the final-year contracts to fill the salary gap, including Dooling's non-garunteed 3.5m. Nets have multiple teams/playes to try this with, starting with Bosh, who also now has the Sam Mitchell connection.
--
3. Nets have best possible supporting cast in that they have proven or future all-stars at PG/SG/C and they don't have to play musical chairs to do it. Who's at SG you ask? TWill. That gives 3 players who can play point and be playmakers. Dev/TWill/LBJ/Bosh/BLo is a championship-caliber lineup with decade-capable longevity. All you need is good role players.
--
4. FA role-player thoughts and fun facts... JJ Berea has declared he wants to play for Nets, his salary was 1.8m. Ben Wallace is FA who only made 1.5m last season. Matt Barnes has declared (3m); every champion needs someone to mark Kobe.
--
5. Youngins and growth; Damion James (aka Prince James anyone? =) is an unbelievable pickup for Nets, trust me; unlike most Nets I not only knew who he was but I've been a huge fan all season and he was only player I wanted Nets to trade up for, I just didn't think he'd slide all the way to 24. We got lottery talent for 24 salary; a 3/4 defensive rebounding machine who has deep shooting range and speed that measures next to PGs. Zoubek will be excellent backup center, and the Nets have some other nice young pieces with the promise of an NBA D-League team to develop them.

I know no one wants to trade Favors. Neither do I, but that's how champions are assembled and Kings acquired. No one is better suited than the Nets.

Newark is not bad. lebron should talk to shaq that is where he is from and visits every once in a while. And it is only for the most two years if not less. Also NJ is a nicer place to live if you want to have a family. most people that work in NYC usually move to nj when they have a family.
