Nets Still All In on the Big Three

As we enter day three of free agency, the news with the Nets seems to be that they’re keeping their focus on the “Big Three” of free agency, LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. According to a report this morning from Al Iannazzone, no other free agent meetings have been scheduled this weekend, and with reports yesterday that Amare Stoudemire was New York-bound and Paul Pierce was returning to Boston, more names are coming off the board for the Nets.

One player the Nets do seem certain to keep, if you believe a report from Dave D’Alessandro, is Derrick Favors. Rumors that the Nets are looking to package him and Devin Harris to Indiana for Danny Granger seem to be false: “Not the way this kid has played the first three days,” said one giddy practice witness, nodding toward Favors. “He competes like hell, and he’s even shooting it well right now. He’s got a chance to be really, really good.”

LeBron meets with Chicago and Cleveland today, considered the co-favorites to land him. He has no deadline to make a decision, but multiple reports the past few days indicate he’s not going to linger too much on a decision, especially with the other big names being impacted by where he ultimately goes.

Even without a FA we have the potential for the best front line of the coming decade (knock wood). If we don't sign a LeBron or a PF, we should probably save our $ to get a shooting wing or a superstar PG in a year or two, preferably before Brook gets his big payday.

We're not getting david lee for anything less than his max, 13 million. Not in this nba climate. Too much money, too little max money guys.

Exactly Sam. I'm all for winning a championship with Lebron and Bosh or Wade, I mean who wouldn't want that, but if we can't get that I would be a lot happier getting nothing than settling on an overpaid free agent consolation prize. I literally jumped and screamed in joy when Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson got their deals. We all know what bad contracts look like *ahem knicks*. But yea, if we could get David Lee for around 9 million I would do that. It seems like he prefers the Nets with his agent dropping comments about playing along side Lopez. But again, with or without Lebron, or a cheaper David Lee, I actually feel very confident in these young guys the Nets have. Another good draft, three years in a row now! Now lets not make any bad decisions like trading for Danny Granger.... who we should have drafted anyway instead of Antoine Wright.... ugh

Gabe, I absolutely agree with your comment! Lebron and Bosh would make the team an instant championship contender, but at the same time the young core of Harris, Williams, James, Favors and Lopez provides a very promising future- combine a great coach who has experience with young, talented players (oh yeah, Devin Harris), and the flexibility that cap space provides and this team will be able to contend for the championship within five years. The point is, Lebron/Wade/Bosh are incredible, but none of the other guys are worth being saddled with the bad contract. Next year will be a much improved one with or without Lebron James.

I would like to see us sign a player like DLee and someone who can shoot consistently from the 3pt line. Add some veterans to the bench, nothing outrageous. How about DLee and Ray Allen? Two guys who will teach the younger players and play team basketball. I would be very happy with those 2 players and think that's a playoff team and more as they solidify during the season. I think a big signing was Zoubek who will give us some size when Lopez is out and 6 fouls against guys like Howard and Bynum, KG and so on. Favors is going to be a monster!!!!

While I would love Lebron/Bosh to come to our team I am fine with the Nets not signing any free agents. I think they could do very well just developing their young guys. This team will be good regardless.

Maybe just maybe in a few years we will have our own BIG THREE, Lopez, Favors and Devin Harris. It's not impossible, especially under the tutelage of Avery Johnson.

So what your saying is, maybe we can all go outside and enjoy the weekend?
