Summer League Game 1 Open Thread

Avery Johnson and Sam Mitchell seem ready to watch some Nets’ Summer League Basketball.  NBATV has been hyping up this game all day, and if you have NBATV or Summer League Broadband, you are going to be able to see Derrick Favors matched up against Evan Turner.  Honestly though, I am excited to see Terrence Williams play.  Most guys who have NBA experience tend to do much better in Summer League games because they are used to NBA-speed. If Williams has a good game, we don’t want to make too much of it, but if he struggles, it might be a little bit worrying.

The third quarter of game 3 is finishing up as I type this.  So we are probably about 20-30 minutes away from tipoff.  Use this as your open thread, but I am going to have to ask that you guys don’t post links to illegal streams.  It just makes more work for me because I have to delete them.

Favors vertical is nuts. His second jump is almost as good as his first. Wow! But yeah, his scoring not so good. T-will was outstanding today though. Absolutely dominant on defense and great distribution. Can't wait to see more tomorrow!

Eh too much to give way in a sign and trade to a team who aren't in a position to bargain. Bosh is going to go where he wants the raptors will take the scraps he gives them or lose him for nothing. He wants the dough but they're not going to bully him. Wouldn't help us. Now if C Bosh wanted to come here that and thats what it took I'd reconsider but thats still too much in my opinion.

@Fuzzy Dunlop-- yes, I was kidding.

Anyone up to the idea of giving up favors for a sign and trade for Bosh? i feel like the nets have a lot more to offer for a young and developing raptors. it's an offer they can't refuse and can claim they won't do a sign and trade with any team other than the nets

@Fuzzy Dunlop- Damion James can definitely learn to become a three and handle the ball. He's never had to up to this point because in college and high school, he's always played the four. I had an opportunity to see him at Texas, and every year, he's made strides in EVERY facet of his game. He's an extremely hard worker, and there's NOTHING to suggest that D. James can't become a competent enough ball handler for the three. In his interview, he cited improved ball handling as one of his goals.

Keep Uzoh, looks like a nice little backup. He did not even show off his explosiveness. Favors looked good, he needs to release the ball quicker but Popeye already knows that. TWill needs to keep practicing his pull up.

I liked what i saw.

Favors seeming like he has a LOT of work to do this year...

@calling all toasters -- I hope you're kidding. Why don't we just make him a shooting guard while we're at it? Maybe he doesn't know how to shoot three pointers now, but he can pick that up -- what's so hard about throwing a ball?

Let's turn Lopez into a point guard while we're at it. What's so hard about passing a ball?

Not everyone is capable of becoming a great ball handler, and if it was so easy I would imagine that James would have picked up the skill in the 14 years that he's been playing organized basketball.

@Devin-- He can pick that up. What's so hard about bouncing a ball?

@CAT He has the potential, but his ballhandling would be atrocious for a 3. He'd probably be one of those wing-big hybrids.

Devin-- I think DJames will spend most of his time at the 3 in the pros. He's strong, but he's the same height and span as Wes Johnson.

it is SO good to see Twill throw it down again. He makes Lebron look like a child.

Avery Johnson might neeed to look at terrence williams to play some back up pg. He looks very comfortable running the point.

Excited to see a few things. It will be nice to see Favors play with guards that have any sort of NBA potential for once. I’ll be watching how he sets up down the court every single time – if he’s posting up hard, looking for the ball, being much more active in the offense.

As a fan, I want to see how Favors and James complement each other – they’re both 4’s but they’re kind of opposites. Favors is a giant, but very athletic and smooth, while James is short but very fast for a 4 with a solid jumper and looks like he’s scrapping every play. I hope he shows leadership with T-Will.
