Nets on the Net: Decision Day

It’s looking less and less likely that the Nets will end up with the crown jewel of free agency, as Yahoo has sources saying LeBron James is leaning towards destroying the NBA joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami.

Dave D. thinks LeBron should stay in Cleveland and quotes the always grumpy Stan Van Gundy: “It takes 15 seconds to say, ‘I’ve decided to stay in Cleveland,’” Van Gundy said. “But we’ve got another 59 minutes and 45 seconds to. . . .what? Promote LeBron James? As if we don’t do that enough.”

This is great. I love the optimism. I bet we all feel like the only Nets fans every now and then, but then you read a great blog like this and realize that there are 5 or 6 out there just like us. Lets go Nets.

I suffered thru the whole season watching the Nets last year. What I noticed is that the Nets weren't as awful as their record was and how the media portrayed them. Nets started off losing to a lucky buzzer beater by D. Wilkins and injuries to Yi, Hayes and pretty much everyone on that roster early in the season. They just never recovered from it. We had only one consistent player in Brook the "Iron Man" Lopez playing all 82 games and like an All Star. These are what I found wrong with the Nets and I will show the improvements made.
Poor defense/Avery Johnson
Rebounds/James,Favors
Low Assist/T-Will has arrived
Scoring/James,Outlaw (ain't give up on Favors yet)
3pt shooters/We have a lot of money for that (Korver, Miller etc)
Yet despite all that the Nets hung in the games and had a couple upsets i.e. Spurs, and Celtics. My point is this. We won't be a laughing stock this year. We will be very competitive and fight for a playoff spot. Now 1 thing I didn't mention was that we need a closer. A real last shot taking guy. This spot is open for Lebron. We don't need to sign a guy to a max deal if his name ain't Lebron, Wade, or Melo. I was all for the Nets to choose a PF but I had issues with them all. I was like if LBJ signs with us then pick a guy he wants. Not pick the guy and lets see if LBJ would come. I applaud the Nets for not thinking like the Knicks. Its Lebron or we invest in core team guys. Now can Proky pull a rabbit out of a hat and deliver us CP3 and have Lebron waiting to introduce them as Nets 2night? They have been around each other the past few days. We'll see! Just wishful thinking. I just want a title in NEW JERSEY before they move. Won't be the same after cause the CBA titles don't feel like its ours. Lebron coming here won't be the same as him on the Cavs. These guys know how to play without Lebron. They just need a leader. So can't call it a rebuilding team cause we didn't waste money on a big name PF. We can really catch teams off guard. Wouldn't hurt to have LBJ. How bout that kid Damion James? Very impressed with his energy and work ethic. Sounds like a bright guy also. LETS GO NETS!!!

Haha! John I wish we were all this optimistic.

Bron is still coming. I feel a trade for CP3 and Okafor. We signed outlaw to be a backup. Book it.

Okafor
Bron
Lopez
CP3
Lee

Bench: Outlaw, Korver, Favors, T-Will

Scary team.

It's easy: Bosh/Wade/James all play every minute and then you get few players at the minimum to support them.

In all seriousness, they could win, if they get some young talent they could be a force, but Lebron's legacy would be toast.

You start to think about the best of all time, which is where he wants to be remembered. To do that you have to do something great.

Wilt, Bird, Magic, Jordan, Kareem, Kobe all have had great moments. But it's earned and not chosen. Timing and placement is key.

Kobe wasn't given the credit he is given today until after he won without Shaq.

I like that we landed Outlaw. I can't believe 5 years at 35 million though. I was thinking 3 years at 18 Mil for him.

Lebron won't win in Miami. The Heat have no shooter, no bench, no center, no PG.

It takes more than 3 players to win a title. Name a championship team that didn't have role players?

Don't talk about Boston's Big3 either. They are a big 4 with Rondo, the big 3 don't all have max deals, and the Celts have guys like Perkins, Davis, and PJ Brown to round out the roster.

If Lebron chooses Miami he's going to go from "the Chosen one" to "LeJoke".

Cavs, Knicks, Nets, and Bulls make some sense. I'm hoping the Heat/Chicago/Cavs/Knicks hype we're hearing is for ratings, and LeBron comes out and says, well actually.....I'm playing in Newark!

Desperation moves will ruin a team's future. After 12 wins anything is an improvement. Rome wasn't built in a year. We are off to a good start with the draft and signing of outlaw. Plus expect some serviceable players in Zoubek and maybe Uzoh. Thorn is doing a good job and hopefully we can get another GM soon. Why make haste, wait and sign the right guy for the job. Thorn is a great GM and will finish the job until we get a new GM. Why all the anxiety and negativity. Some of y'all are sounding like Knick fans man...ha ha ha ha.

You've got to be kidding me, Outlaw is an excellent shooter and a great fit for the Nets.

It's not the Net's fault they are not getting Lebron, I'm just glad they took a shot. I'm glad we are not stuck with Boozer.

As for James - if he chooses Miami his legacy will be the guy who needed to surround himself with an all-star team to win (if he wins) essentially a coward. If he goes to NJ or NY and wins - Legend. If he goes to Chicago and wins he'll be the "almost Mike".

I'm not calling the Nets a joke, but I don't have to. They've told us as much with outrageous claims to success that the basketball world is currently laughing at. Will I still support them? Of course. But they deserve all the ridicule they receive for how they've handled themselves this off-season. Proky has just built the first negative part of his legacy. Is this a sign of the future? Does he shake this already tarnished image or does he compound it like other owners? 5 years to Outlaw at 7m, really? They better not fault Avery for any shortcomings at this pace because if this is the pace they're working at, Avery's gonna deserve 5 years - not 3. What an epic set of miscalculations by the Nets. I don't know whether to feel sorry for them or ridicule them.

I 2nd what Will wrote.
5 years?

Please, no more "game plans" until we hire a G.M. My dog "Charlie" has more sense then these Netheads. I'm just amazed that they were able to get D. James with the #27 + #31 picks. Must of been an "accident".

Well apparently the Nets would have matched the Bulls offer, but Boozer's rep didn't contact them. I call for a moratorium on free agency talk for the rest of the day. Let's find out where Lebron is going then we can make a game plan from there.

We need a G.M. who knows what he's doing. Lets not sign anyone until we have a real G.M. This organization under Proky is a laughing stock. If the Bulls get LeBron because they outbid us by a measly 5 million on Boozer, it will be travesty. Lets hope for a miracle tonight. That's all we have left too hope for.

The team is a rudderless ship.

It comes down to this: do we want to spend money just to spend money on a guy like David Lee, who will demand close to 5yr/70 mil just because we have the cap space and when we have no shot at contending in these next two years, or do we go after a good supplentary player like Tyrus Thomas, who can start and play minutes at the PF while Favora develops? I say Thomas. He would demand about half of what DLee wants, and would give us more of what the team needs. We came into this summer thinking we could get LeBron, and now it's evident we can't get him. That shouldn't all of a sudden mean we have to ruin future years just to be a 35 win team this year. You can never have too much cap space, and there's guys, that assuming a CBA gets done next summer, will be FAs like Melo and Horford and others that we could spend our money on. Another option would be calling up the Hornets and seeing if we could give up Harris and maybe C. Lee for Chris Paul, and agree to take Peja/okafor's contract.

i hate the idea of waiting another 2-3 years for LeBron. I just want this all to be done with and get back to basketball. I just want the Nets to sign a few guys (Lee, Outlaw, Korver, Thomas) and then the offseason to end.

Does anyone think a 2 or 3 year deal with Miami or cleveland is possible? So them he can sign with the nets while lopez, favors, t-will, possibly another top pick, are in their prime and the nets are in Brooklyn. I feel that would make a lot of sense

I think we've found the fatal flaw in the salary cap system.
