Daily Link: Maybe no Brook on Team USA

What seemed like an obvious choice earlier in the week is now maybe less so. With Brook Lopez coming off mono and having some conditioning issues and Team USA Coach Mike Krzyzewski looking to go small and athletic in his rotations, Brook looks like he only has an outside shot to make the Team USA roster this summer, according to John Schuhmann and NBA.com.

That’s a little disappointing, but I think my biggest concern is that Lopez be ready and healthy for the 2010-11 regular season. When it was announced that he had mono earlier this summer, I was kinda shocked how nonchalant the organization was about it, especially since Lopez lost so much weight. Just keeping my fingers crossed.

I hate coach K.. Tar Heels All Day

coach k has already said he doesnt want his big men scoring. he wants them to rebound, block shots, setting screens and doing the dirty work. if lopez makes the team, dont expect big scoring numbers from him. thats not how this team is designed. it may be better if he doesnt make the team.

I was also disappointed that Blue lost, I picked them to win for the Streak for the Cash lol, I was at a whopping 5 wins

When I was watching I couldnt really blame him for everything, it looked like the Rookie/Sophomore game all over again, I didnt think lopez got the ball in the post at all. And when they did pass it they werent good you could see them bouncing off his feet or knees we all know how brook likes it high everytime he came down the court he pointed upwards but no one passed it. I don't blame him one bit for his performance. He did have a nice dunk though.

Brook Lopez is 22 years old. He's been playing with one of the worst teams in the NBA. He's coming off mono which is a serious illness and he's got virtually no help at his side in the PF spot. He plays every game and does produce very nice numbers. The Nets might be wise in signing him to an extension ASAP. Players like him are hard to find. He is not a flashy, super athletic, skywalker but he does know how to play the game. 22 years old! I would say he's a keeper. Can he improve? Of course. Surround him with a good coach and good players and see what happens. As for team U.S.A. who really cares. How come the top NBA players are not playing if it's that important?

Lopez should excuse himself from team USA. What he should be doing is seeing the team trainer and concentrate on his health and regaining strength and weight.

maybe Lopez is not the guy everyone thought he was going to be.

Maybe the Nets should think about bringing Ryan Anderson back. Lopez seemed much happier when he hung out with RA. We could use a shooting big to replace Yi. What would it cost?

fiba style basketball is not a game where true centers shine. on the 2008 eam, dwight howard didnt look effective. but when bosh came in to play center, he was doing his thing because of his versatility. what happened to dwight happened to tim duncan also in 2004. fiba basketball is for versatile big men. look at the european players in the nba (nowitski, gasol, etc.). they are not bangers. they are shooters, and slashers. some of them can even dribble the ball. brook lopez is a conventional center. so even if he were healthy, he wouldnt look that great playing this style of ball...

If you watched last night's Blue/White game, you could tell how much skinnier Lopez is. Plus, he just looked really bad (for the most part) the whole game. I wouldn't be sad if he didn't make the team in order to get healthier.

Lopez will be fine. Mono is no joke and it takes a while to recover.
Maybe Brook not making team U.S.A. will be a blessing in disguise. It will reinforce the need to get better and stronger, if he wants to be the elite player he himself says he's aiming to be.
As for the organization being nonchalant, maybe they didn't want to scare off potential free agents.
