Daily Link: Nets a Team to Watch?

Just for a little bit of fun and positivity this morning, thought I’d direct you to a slideshow at Bleacher Report. The article lists the Nets as one of the five “sleeper” teams to watch in the NBA this season:

With a core of Devin Harris, Brook Lopez, and Derrick Favors, however, the Nets shouldn’t have to worry about having less than 25 wins in a season for at least the next decade.

Hey guys, as disappointing and bizarre as this summer has been, I still think this Nets team is going to be a lot better than it was last year and could surprise people. Not NBA Finals surprise, but let’s be patient here.

Number 7 or 8 seed. mark my words.. We probably won only 12 games this season.. but I think we had a 30 win team. a lot of those games were just bad luck..

So a 30 win team can improve to around 40 wins. I say we go 38-44 and sneak into the 8th spot atleast.

There is no reason to believe they will be worse than last year.

Avery alone should get this team 10 wins (that's how ill prepared Kiki was). And the talent level has incrementally increased...

If healthy we have some solid additions in Morrow and Farmer. Outlaw and Petro should provide good depth (Outlaw more than Petro).

And hopefully, by mid year, we will be seeing Favors begin the real maturization process and start contributing.

I certainly think we will be better than last year. Can we get any worse? But more than likely NOT a playoff team.

However, is a 27-32 win season (i.e. a +20 turnaround) not enough reason for hope.

I just think we need to temper our expectations and we might be pleasantly surprised.

@Sam;
It's sounds like your not asking for too much...LOL I'm hoping for the best but will be prepared for the worst. Last year was tough to take and I'm keeping my eyes wide open this time around.

There's no reason to get excited over somebody's slide show on 'Bleacher Report', but LJ23's pessimism is a good indication of what kind of fan he is, which is a terrible one.

I don't agree with Mike, either, who wants anything that's not 'boring'.

I'll take a team that is well-coached, with a new arena to play in, a new owner who really loves basketball and has proved he can run a successful business, and with a few exciting new players.

I'm going to be the optimistic one and ask, why shouldn't I expect this team to be much better?

teams in the east made it to the playoffs and others almost made it to the playoffs with less talent. we will not be horrible. toronto will be horrible. minnesota will be horrible. we will compete for an 8th spot.

@LJ not really feeling the support here

As long as they are not "boring", I can live with horrible. Lots of new players to watch and root for and even the "old" players seem new now.
I will be especially curious to see who emerges as team leader. Will Harris and Lopez assert themselves or will Outlaw and James step up.
These are the Nets so you know anything can happen and probably will. As long as they are entertaining I will support them 100%.

No.they are going to be horrible.
