Interesting Article About Derrick Favors

Derrick Favors told FanHouse in Orlando during the Nets summer league games that he had no idea who his father was or knew anything about him.  However, Favors’ father got in touch with FanHouse and the result is a really interesting article on the situation, including the fact that his father was a basketball player as well, even playing in college:

What Favors, 19, is doing now is embarking on an NBA career with the New Jersey Nets after being the No. 3 overall pick in last month’s draft. The 6-foot-10 forward will start a basketball season this fall for the first time knowing who his father is and believing he inherited some talent from Parker, who was a high school star in St. Louis before signing in 1976 with St. Louis University, where he averaged 10.3 points as a freshman.

The whole article is really interesting and I urge you to check it out.  A really good read on a slow Nets’ news day.

Derrick should just keep persuing his dream he made it this far without that someone, but forgiving wont hurt..

wow. really great article. read it while I was at wrk. brought a lump to my throat a couple of times and had to stop reading it. I so believe that his father contacting him as he is on the verge of NBA wealth is more coincidence than convenience.

plus, it might mean more to Derrick that he has siblings, but I'm probably projecting here.

the article once again points out what a great person Derrick is. no histrionics, no wild reactions. folks, this kid WILL be a star. I'm ecstatic that he is a Net.

favors is the best with or without his father

I thought Shaq was his real dad.

Maybe this will help Derrick with his self image and self esteem. Who knows the whole story? Maybe his father will turn out to be a positive influence. Better late then never. Sometimes it's better to have no father present then an abusive one. Hopefully it has a happy ending for all involved, especially for young Derrick.
