Daily Link: Courtney Lee’s Job in Danger?

In a little top 10 list action, Dime looks at starters from last season who may not keep their starting jobs in 2010-11. One of those players is Courtney Lee:

Lee improved his numbers from his rookie year in Orlando (12.5 ppg, 1.3 spg), but didn’t quite have the breakout year some expected in his first year with the Nets. Free-agent pickup Anthony Morrow will bye for Lee’s starting job, plus coach Avery Johnson might want to move Terrence Williams to the two.

Can’t argue with the logic here. I don’t think Morrow is versatile enough to get starters minutes and is best used as a zone buster/offensive boost off the bench. But TWill is a different animal who brings more to the table, especially if you have a shooter in Travis Outlaw playing the three, giving Terrence less responsibilities from the outside.

CLee stunk it up last year. nets fan I hope your not really courtney lee himself.

Cont:

"depressed locker room" (even before the 0 - 18 start) Nick Coman refered to in his NESN.com article. I just don't think he ever bought into being a Net, and there were times I feel he played with no passion, trailing a play lackadaisically or not diving for a loose ball or not rushing to help a teammate off the floor... Now, new year, new coach, clean slate for everyone, but I can see Lee losing his starting job. On the flip side, I hope he starts the year well so that he becomes trade bait instead of T-Will. I do not want the Nets to trade T-Will. Do not forget we drafted him because he led Louisville in assists and almost in rebounds as a forward. Kind of a taller Jason Kidd if you think about it, and his shooting was not that good early in his career as well (remember Ason Kidd because he had no "J"?) T-Will will be a special player, hope it-will be as a Net.

I was initially excited when we acquired Lee, thought he was good value for VC. I was rather dissapointed in his performance over the year. Let's not forget his initial morbid reaction when he became a Net. Did he ever really get over it? Maybe his despondent state of mind was a major factor in creating the "depressed lo

Dude Courtney Lee is deffenently going to start this year and his stats will improve dramatically because i think with the style AJ plays he will be one of their go to guys. I am sorry, but the thing that gets on my nerves when people classify a player bad if he dosent have over 30 points a game. I mmean im a neats fan in all but wasent the only reason the nets won their first game was because of courtney lee. And who was that player that comes out everynight and puts out 110%? thats Clee baby

And there is no possibe way in hell that courtney could have avaraged more than 15 point especially the way the coach ran the nets last season. The ball always eather went to Lopez or to Devin and thats what the whole team was set around. I mean Devin Harris is goood but he got it in his head that if Vince is gone he can do what ever he wants and that it is his team.

Everybody knows that C LEE is one of the best perimeter deffenders in the NBA. Also one of the best free throw shooters in the game. And one of the best shotters in the game.

In orlando C lee was thought to score deffend and create good shots for other players while other players created good shots for him. But in New Jersey it was more like everybody for them selves.

I was thinking our starting lineup could mimic the starting lineup at Dallas a couple of years back. This would mean that Outlaw would start at the four but play high post or outside the arc. This will open up space for the slashers devin at the 1 and terrence at the 2. The slashers can kick out to either outlaw or morrow, finish, or setup brook at the 5. Although outlaw lacks the girth to be a permanent solution at the 4, he does give us the flexibility and shooting required to open up the floor. We can approach a more traditional offense when favors hits the floor and spells outlaw, to allow a second unit of Petro at the 5, favors at the 4, damion at the 3, lee at the 2 and farmar at the 1. Humph picks up garbage minutes and the offense goes through favors in the second squad.

I'm open to discussion and would like to hear your opinions.

I would love to see the Nets trade Courtney Lee for Brooklyn native Taj Gibson or Jersey boy Jason Thompson. I'm not sure if the Bulls would deal Taj Gibson, but Courtney Lee would greatly strengthen their backcourt defensively. And as for the Kings, with DeMarcus Cousins, Carl Landry, Hassan Whiteside and Samuel Dalembert up front, they have no need for Jason Thompson, but could really use a starting (or backup) shooting guard like Courtney Lee. Jason Thompson would be fine as the Nets starting PF for the time being, until Favors grows in to the role.

@ andy jalen- u are absolutely right. courtney lee would be great off the bench. he has talent. i just dont see him as a starter. but he definitely can be a spark off the bench. i dont know too many second unit guys that could hang with him off the bench. he's a good defender, athletic, and a decent shooter.

Also I went to alot of games last year and now I'm a season ticket holder so I'll be at them all and I watched the Nets lose about 75% of there games in the 3rd and 4th quarter last year. They need some point production during that time between the 3rd and 4th when people are resting. This is where the Nets will lose many of there games.

Courtney Lee is coming off the bench. That is not a bad thing for him either. He will come in against the second unit defense and (should be able to) dominate the second unit players. Pluse his salary doesn't demand that he starts. If you didn't know he's making the rookie money something like 2 mil a season or something. Plus coming of the bench has taken on a whole new meaning. 6th man of the year of award any one. He will still finish many of games and playing in the 4th Quarter is more important than starting.

Morrow played horrible defense because he played for the warriors. NOBODY PLAYS DEFENSE OVER THERE!!! If Morrow is a hard worker, Avery can transform that into him being a decent defender. This guy has only been in the league fpr 2 years. I think with our experienced coaching staff, he can become more than just a spot up shooter.

P.S. I found a writer on NESN who thinks the Nets might make the playoffs and why.

Funny, I was reading up on Morrow earlier this morning and learned he was a fan favorite at G.S., not just for his great shooting ability, but for his hard work and being a class act. He has holes in his game but they say this kid is trying his best to be a complete player. He has the athlectic tools, he just needs to learn how to defend, ball handle and pass. Some even predict he may be a late blooming "star".
I still think C.Lee will be the starter because Courtney is also a very hard working young player and does play 'D'. As for T-Will, who knows what AJ will do with that other great young talent. Not a bad problem to have. The Nets will start traing camp earlier then most teams because of the trip to China. AJ will have more time to shake things out. Should be interesting.

I have to disagree. Morrow is a shot maker. He has not played with a dominant post player like Brook Lopez. Also you have to consider Morrow played in GS where he played SF next to 2 guards that dominated the ball.
Courtney Lee had the green light last year and had many bad games even some 0-for games. Morrow scored 20+ points every time he played more than 30 minutes.
