Daily Link: Can Devin Bounce Back

Sebastian Pruiti did some good work over at his other site, NBA Playbook. He recently used some video to analyze whether or not Devin Harris can have a bounce back season this year.

I feel like the things that caused Devin Harris to have such a poor season are correctable (save the injuries), and he is shaping up to have a bounce back year because the Nets will be running more, and he is now surrounded by some pretty good shooters.

I think Devin’s performance is really key for the Nets this year (duh). It’s not coincidental that the team only collected 12 wins while he spent most of last year either injured or underperforming.

Devin Harris is an allstar, always had been and always will be. Next season we will be considering him in the top 5 best PGs in the world. Book it!

trust me there is still that allstar
point gaurd in devin harris

great stuff sebastian. i totally agree that Devin will bounce back. with Brook being more of a focal point and having a third scorer in Outlaw is definitely going to take pressure off Devin.
Also T Will handling the ball a little more will let DH play off the ball which he is great at. Having some good shooters in CLee, Morrow, Farmar, and Outlaw are going to give him some nice open lanes to drive.
The Fastbreak is going to be fun this year with Favors/Brook getting the rebounds and passing it off to DH with Outlaw/TWill/ CLee running the wings with Favors and Brook trailing and Morrow/ Farmar waiting at the 3 pt Line. I CANT WAIT!!!

harris knows better than anyone on that team that avery is not going to take any nonsense. if he does not play defense, avery will bench his ass.

I'm sure Avery will actually act like a coach and make sure Devin gets his butt lower to the ground on D. How nobody would at least stress that fundamental last year is beyond me.

tt, I find your claims kind of funny and laughable. You keep talking about how Thorn hates Harris, great, Thorn is gone, so why would that effect Harris now? And I dont think by stating that the Nets looked into trading Harris for the 2nd over all pick in last years draft as saying that he has no value? that would imply he does have value.

Thank You Sebastian! You should have wrote this last year during the All Star break

Why are we talking abot Rod Thorn again? Why do we care what he thinks? He is no longer part of the organization. He QUIT on the Nets when things were/are at the lowest point in team history. Therefore, what he thinks is really meaningless. If everything you said is true, maybe a fresh perspective and having people and some talent around him who believe in him will make all the difference in the world!

LASTLY,

none of us including myself should believes what we read--teams including the nets will manipulate the media --having one statement printed but actually believing the opposite

for instance, devin harris will be untradeable if he is bashed in the media!!his assets will be magnified and his weaknesses left off the printed page--

some of these people have laughed at me when i tell them what i read--ALL HAVE BEEN QUOTED AS SAYING DONT BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ!!

@TT;
Sure, Harris has his faults, and maybe the Nets would move for the right price, but right now he's our PG and you gotta play with what you
got.

the problem with devin is that he is a shoot first point guard. that's simply it. we need someone at the point who can make everyone on the team better. if devin can adopt the mindset to look to set up his teamates for shots first, and if there is nothing there, THEN he take the shot, he can be a very effective point guard for us.

to nick,

if harris is a great player, why was he being actively shopped to the memphis grizzlies after his allstar season --the nets wanted the number 2 pick in last years draft in exchange for harris.

a patient of mine who works for the grizzlies told me the nets were the ones actively pursing that trade-turned down by memphis
BEFORE THE DRAFT
PLEASE READ MY EARLIER COMMENTS WHY THE NETS ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH HIM!!

in terms of staying healthy--NO PLAYER IS COMPLETELY HEALTHY--
DATING BACK TO HIS DALLAS DAYS,HE HAS MISSED AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF TIME FOR QUESTIONABLE INJURIES!!!

he has a habit of staying out of the lineup for these minor injuries in contrast to other players with similar injuries continuing to play!!
as a physician,i can tell you that this attitude of harris wont change--no team can rise to a high level if their point guard is not tough!!
EVERYONE KNOWS THORN IS A TOUGH GUY BUT VERY FAIR--HARRIS JUST NOT FIT HIS PICTURE OF AN IDEAL POINT GUARD BEING SO SOFT!!
harris may play better but they will continue to shop him around!!

I feel Devin is a great player, but the loss of Vince Carter really caused teams to start keying him more than they would if Vince was on the team, so the real question is: who can take some of the focus off of him, other than Brook Lopez, so he can score like he did in his all star year?

to mark,

i know for a FACT that thorn was not a devin harris fan-he did not play thru minor, nagging injuries which PISSED THORN OFF BIGTIME,played no defense WHICH PISSED THORN OFF,and did not show leadership skills--thorn was even trying to dump him immediately after his all star season last summer!!

coach johnson was in favor of giving him to the nets for an aging jason kidd who clearly was becoming quite slow for a point guard!!

i am a firm believer that the plan is to have harris improve his play to increase his trade value!! when this team becomes ready to gel--he will not be there--he is a player whose stats are better than his contribution to the TEAM!!
FROM PEOPLE CLOSE TO THORN,I THINK HE LOOKED AT HARRIS THIS WAY!!
we just need one team to believe they want him enough to give up someone the nets think will fit in better longterm with their plan to rise to the top--harris has NO FUTURE with the nets except to improve his play so that the nets can trade him!!

Devin has proven in the past when surrounded with good talent he plays at a higher level. He is a player that needs a support group around him. Then he shines. Left to his own devices his game becomes to predictable and suffers. I remember him be quoted early last season that he felt that he had to be the goto guy, the leading scorer. This is not what he should be doing. If he stays healthy and motivated, he can rise again to his previous level. I think he has a very good chance of doing that.

@ ChrisCa$h i agree with your statement, i believe that he will in fact turn into 18 and 8.5

@ChrisCa$h That would be fine with me. That would bring him back up to or near the elite level. Don't be surprised to see him spend some time at the 2, with Farmar at point.

I would be happy if he just dished out more assists. Same amount of ppg, but 9 or 10 apg would be awesome. I expect 18 ppg and 8.5 apg

I believe he can have a bounce back year...but more importantly he MUST have a bounce back year for this team to have any level of success. Brook also needs to continue on his way to allstar staus. Without those two performing, Prokhorovs promise that we will be in the playoffs this upcoming season is just a lot of hooey. Stop dreaming about CP3 he ain't gonna come here.
