Deron Williams named to Eastern Conference All-Star Team

The NBA and Nets announced today that Nets point guard Deron Williams was elected to the Eastern Conference All-Star team as a reserve. Deron’s the second Nets player invited to All-Star weekend festivities after yesterday’s news on MarShon Brooks, and hopefully not the last if Anthony Morrow has his way with the three-point contest.

This is D-Will’s third all-star appearance and first as a member of the Eastern Conference. Through 26 games, Deron is posting averages of 20.9 points and 8.6 assists per game on 41% shooting. He’s creating 106 points per 100 possessions and has an even 20 PER. He’s had a bit of an up-and-down season individually, but after a rough start the ups outweigh the downs; his biggest issue to date remains the league-leading turnovers, and many of those fall on the shoulders of unsuspecting and brick-handed teammates.

D-Will joins Andre Iguodala, Luol Deng, Roy Hibbert, Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson, and Paul Pierce as reserves. The Eastern Conference starters are Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwight Howard.

Good. I don't want him thinking of playing for the Nets as something that keeps him off the All-Star team.

calling all toasters Exactly...Plus he gets to hang with Dwight and discuss real estate market in NYC...

let them hate. The fact that this team has 8 wins and are still within striking distance of the 8th seed is enough to get him on the team. Congrats to D-Will, who I was critical of for his rough start but he's hung in there and played hard regardless of how bad the roster is. Lets hope that after the ASG his determination and ours as fans will pay off by yielding the big fish in a small pond.

The fact is that Deron Williams deserves to play in a game meant to showcase the league's best talent, no matter what his statistics are during this crazy season.

Sammyfein Agree...Deron Williams is one of the best point guards in the NBA and should be at the game.

They should really stop counting bobbling as turnovers for the Passer.

tae ...and they should count blown baskets as assists...Deron would be averaging around 16 per game.
