About
Nets Are Scorching is one-stop shopping for all things related to the New Jersey Nets: analysis, opinion, news links, humor, game recaps, video breakdown, podcasts, and pretty much anything else you were ever looking to consume about the Nets and their players. The site was founded by Sebastian Pruiti in 2009, and is now co-authored by him, Mark Ginocchio, Dennis Velasco, and Devin Kharpertian.
Sebastian Pruiti is a New Jersey resident, and grad school student who is a big-time Nets fan, which led him to create Nets Are Scorching. He’s previously blogged about the Chicago Bulls and at the general NBA site, Half Court Heave. When it comes to other sports, Sebastian pulls for the Seattle Mariners and the Buffalo Bills, showing that the geographic locations of the teams he roots for are as diverse and eclectic as his opinions on basketball. He is the true “X’s and O’s guy” for the site and prefers to leave that flowery, literary stuff to his associate, Mark. You can e-mail him at Sebastian.Pruiti@netsarescorching.com and follow him on Twitter at http://twitter.com/SebastianPruiti.
Mark Ginocchio is a New York City resident, and a full-time writer who has experience in newspapers and corporate public relations. He started pulling for the Nets in the early 1990s when he discovered his parents were too cheap to order MSG on cable to see the Knicks, so he was stuck with Sports Channel and the Nets. Fortunately, that team featured Drazen Petrovic, and he was hooked from that day forward. Mark also pulls for the New York Mets and the New York Jets, which just goes to show he can never be accused of jumping on the bandwagon in sports. E-mail him at Mark.Ginocchio@netsarescorching.com.
Dennis Velasco grew up a New York Knicks fan in Queens, NY. Eventually, DV learned to love the NBA and not just Patrick Ewing and his out-of-control hyperhydrosis. DV figures if he and Jay-Z could both have roots with the Knicks and the latter can own part of the Nets, why can’t he blog about them? And don’t get it twisted, DV knows about the Nets. He’s had his ankles broken by Kenny Anderson in a pick-up game, thought Buck Williams was always underappreciated as a Net, to this day thinks Derrick Coleman’s “Whoop-dee-damn-doo” is one of the best sports quotes of all-time, and knows Drazen Petrovic could have been one of the best foreign players in the NBA ever. DV has written for SI.com, Yahoo!, SLAM, Hoops Hype, and The New York Times amongst many other places he’s fooled into thinking he writes good. You can e-mail him at DV@netsarescorching.com and follow him on Twitter at @DV140.
Devin Kharpertian is a fourth-year Division III student at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and if you don’t go to Hampshire you probably have no clue what that means. (In short: he’s on track.) Hampshire, a small, liberal-arts school, still has a basketball team – and Devin is the captain. It means less than it sounds. Like most college students with no direction, Devin lives & breathes basketball and started a band. They’re okay. Devin has been a die-hard Nets fan since the Knicks let him down in 1999, and despite being let down countless times by the Nets since then has still stuck by the team, watching every game possible (even this past season). A draft fanatic & also a Mets fan, Devin accurately calls himself a “sports masochist.” He welcomes any and all basketball discussion and can be reached at Devin.Kharpertian@netsarescorching.com and can be reached on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/uuords.
