Game 9 Scouting Report
Nov 13, 2009 Nets vs. Magic, Opponent Scouting Reports
Game 9 @ Orlando (6-3)
Projected Starting Lineup
1. Jameer Nelson | 6′0″ | 183 lbs | 29.1 MPG | 13.9 PPG | 5.8 APG | 44.8% FG | 44.8% 3 | 85.7 FT
With Jameer Nelson getting hurt right before the all-star break, everyone seems to forget about him. Not the best shooter, but he is a terrific point guard. Great at getting the ball in shooter’s hands and setting them up. Great running the pick and roll. The Nets must crowd him and not let him see the court. Usually you wouldn’t crowd a poor shooting PG, but he isn’t the quickest guy either, so he won’t blow by you (hopefully. I am looking at you Devin!)
2. Vince Carter | 6′6″ | 198 lbs. | 26.4 MPG | 18 PPG | 2.2 APG | 44% FG | 40.6% 3 | 84.6% FT
This guy looks familiar huh? When he gets it going, he is one of the toughest guys to defend in the league. Loves the pull up jumper, and will take it more often that driving. Another guy you need to crowd and force to drive, because he is less comfortable doing that. Must attack him offensively also. Force him to play D, tire him out, and hopefully his shots will fall short. Was on his way to a very big day in NJ, but got hurt, expect him to finish what he started this time around.
3. Matt Barnes | 6′7″ | 226 lbs. | 30.2 MPG | 9.7 PPG | 6.4 RPG | 39.2% FG | 20 % 3 | 78.3% FT
Aggressive guy who can play defense with the best of them. Little surprised by his lack of minutes in game one. He can hit the three too.
4. Brandon Bass | 6′8″ | 250 lbs. | 23.6 MPG | 9.8 PPG | 3.2 RPG | 53.9% FG | 0% 3 | 85.7% FT
Physical banger inside. High-motor guy who despite being a little undersized can attack the glass. Great offensively in the post, and will outwork you there. Doesn’t really fit in with Orlando’s shooting style, which is why he is better off the bench. Starting because of the injury to Ryan Anderson.
5. Dwight Howard | 6′11″ | 265 lbs. | 31.2 MPG | 18.4 PPG | 10.6 RPG | 64.7% FG | 0% 3 | 62.9% FT
Dwight Howard is on his way to being the most dominant big man in the NBA. Doesn’t have a polished post game, but that doesn’t matter, he can out muscle and out-athletic just about any big man in the league. On the defensive end, he has great help instincts and can block a lot of shots. Poor free-throw shooter, foul him instead of allowing an easy dunk.
Bench
G. J.J. Redick | 6′4″ | 190 lbs. | 30.8 MPG | 12.3 PPG | 2.7 APG | 41.5% FG | 41.9% 3 | 89.3% FT
Knock down shooter. Can’t leave him open, like Ryan Anderson, you need to close out hard on him and make him dribble. He had a couple starts when Vince Carter was hurt and played pretty well in those starts, that could be enough to boost his confidence and turn him into a knock-down shot maker like he was at Duke.
G/F. Mickael Pietrus | 6′6″ | 198 lbs. | 29 MPG | 8.6 PPG | 2.9 RPG | 35.1% FG | 36% 3 | 61% FT
Team’s 6th man last year, now starting. Not a knockdown three point shooter, but he can hit the wide open ones, so you need to close out on him. Will attack the basket more than he shoots, so be careful when closing out. His best attribute is on the defensive end though. He is a great on the ball defender and can force anyone he plays against into a bad shot.
C. Marcin Gortat | 19.8 MPG | 4.9 PPG | 5 RPG | 45.2% FG | o% 3 | 66.7% FT
Dwight Howard’s main backup. A solid player who can start for a number of teams, but he is backing up Dwight. He is a guy who can log serviceable minutes backing up Dwight.
G. Jason Williams | 6′1″ | 180 lbs. | 18.9 MPG | 5.2 PPG | 4.3 APG | 49% FG | 36.4% 3 | 77.8% FT
Experienced backup point who can do just about everything out there. He can get in the lane and create for others and he can knock down the three. Age has slowed him down a bit, and you need to attack him when he is on the defensive end. Force the coaching staff to take him out because of his lack of offense. Had 8 assists against the Nets last game.
F/C. Anthony Johnson | 6′3″ | 195 lbs. | 6.3 MPG | 1 PPG | 1 APG | 50% FG | 0% 3 | 100% FT
Journeyman backup point. With Jayson Williams now in Orlando, he won’t be getting too many minutes.
F. Ryan Anderson | 6′10″ | 240 lbs. | 24.8 MPG | 15 PPG | 5 RPG | 46.4% FG | 43.6% 3 | 75% FT
Out for tonight’s game.
F. Rashard Lewis | 6′10″ | 230 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Serving the ninth game of his 10 game suspension.
C. Adonal Foyle | 6′10″ | 270 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Out. Injured.
Offensive Tendencies:
This team loves shooting the 3 ball and they make a ton too, last game they shot 29 of them, hitting on more than 50%. Don’t be surprised if this team takes a three on a 3 on 1 fast break. If an open three isn’t there, the second option is getting the ball down low to Dwight Howard. The ball usually gets to him on the low post, and if no double comes, he makes his move to the basket. If the double comes, he is unselfish enough to kick it out and they are one of the best at moving the ball around to get the open three.
Defensive Tendencies:
With shot-eraser Dwight Howard playing behind them, the other Magic players love playing up on the basketball. They go for steals in the passing lane and try to take the ball from the ballhandler. They like to funnel guys attacking the basketball to Dwight and let him block the shot.
Keys To Victory:
Getting Dwight Howard in foul trouble. If he is off the court, it is one less thing to be worried about stopping. Also, close out on the three point shooters. This is a great 3 point shooting team, and if they are open, they will make them. We need to secure the rebounds too, 3 point shots are tough to read off the rim, and if we don’t box-out we will give the Magic numerous three-point shots, and that isn’t something we want.
Game 8 Scouting Report
Nov 11, 2009 2009-2010 Regular Season, Nets vs. Sixers, Opponent Scouting Reports
Game 8 vs. Philadelphia (3-4)
Projected Starting Lineup
1. Louis Williams | 6′1″ | 175 lbs. | 34.4 MPG | 15.0 PPG | 4.9 APG | 47% FT | 21.7% 3 | 81.5% FT
Not a pure PG, but somewhat effective when he is running the point. Learning the position this year. Looks to outquick defenders to get into the lane. Solid albeit streaky shooter. Must be physical with him.
2. Andre Iguodala | 6′6″ | 207 lbs. | 38.4 MPG | 20.0 PPG | 4.7 APG | 51.4 FG | 36.4 3 | 68.6% FT
Eddie Jordan’s two guard set will allow him to bring the ball up every once in a while, along with Lou Williams. The 6.0 assists per game average this preseason shows he may be embracing that. Super athletic, great finisher when he gets inside the paint. Streaky shooter, if he starts hitting, we need to watch out. Solid defender, gambles a bit…might be susceptible to back-door cuts.
3. Thaddeus Young | 6′8″ | 220 lbs. | 35.6 MPG | 12.9 PPG | 4 RPG | 40.7% FG | 8.3% 3 | 74.2 FT
His size at the 3 spot allows him to be a tough physical banger inside. Good shooter when given time, but if you contest, he is wildly inconsistent. Not the best ballhandler on the team, so you want to close hard on him to make him put it on the floor! Defensively, need to use speed to get by him, probably won’t be able to out-muscle him.
4. Elton Brand | 6′9″ | 254 lbs. | 27.6 MPG | 10.1 PPG | 5.6 RPG | 45.2% FG | 0% 3 | 83.3% FT
A PF that likes to bang inside. Must be physical with him and can’t let him catch it deep in the post. Face up game is solid too, and he can hit from 10-15 feet. Good passer, so you must be careful where you bring the double from. Tough rebounder, must box him out!
5. Samuel Dalembert | 6′11″ | 250 lbs. | 22.1 MPG | 6.6 PPG | 6 RPG | 48.4 FG | – 3 | 84.2% FT
Not really an offensive threat from outside of 10 feet. Struggles to hit from inside 10 feet as well. Slow feet. Can be taken advantage of in the pick and roll set. Great timing and shot blocking ability though, must pump fake him! Terrific defensive rebounder.
Bench
F/C. Marreese Speights | 6′10″ | 245 lbs. | 23.4 MPG | 14.4 PPG | 6.9 RPG | 63.5 FG | 0 3 | 84 FT
We should all be familiar with this guy from summer league. Possesses a great athletic ability for his size, and when he is hitting his shot he is tough to stop. Needs to take a lot of shots to put up his numbers. Good shot blocker, you can pump fake him though. He has shown to be foul-prone.
G/F. Jason Kapono | 6′7″ | 215 lbs. | 15.4 MPG | 6.7 PPG | 1.1 RPG | 50% FG | 45% 3 | 57.1% FT
One of the league’s best 3 point shooters. Has 30-foot range. Need to stick with him and can’t help off of him. Doesn’t do much besides shoot, so close hard and make him put it on the floor.
G. Willie Green | 6′3″ | 200 lbs. | 14.4 MPG | 6.3 PPG | 1.9 APG | 45.7% FG | o% FT | 80% FT
Not a true point either, but the truest point on the Sixers. If they struggle getting into the offense, Green will come in off the bench to try and settle things. Hard worker on defense, but he lacks the quicks to stay in front of his man from time to time.
F. Jason Smith | 7′0″ | 240 lbs. | 14.2 MPG | 3.7 PPG | 2.2 RPG | 31.3% FG | 50% 3 | 75% FT
Missed all of last year with a knee injury. Can play either the PF or C spot. Has a nice back to the basket game and a nice touch on his mid-range shot.
G. Jrue Holiday | 6′3″ | 180 lbs. | 11.7 MPG | 5 PPG | 1.7 APG | 75% FG | 75% 3 | 0% FT
Wildcard. Athletic and quick, but is an inconsistent shooter and he sometimes is a little loose with the basketball.
G/F. Rodney Carney | 6′7″ | 205 lbs. | 9.8 MPG | 3 PPG | 1.2 RPG | 35.3 FG | 33.3% 3 | 60 FT
Carney can run and jump as well as any wing player in basketball, but he’s a poor ballhandler who lacks good instincts. His lack of feel reveals itself in the poor assist rate and his inability to get shots near the basket to take advantage of his superior finishing ability. A real tough defender.
G. Royal Ivey | 6′4″ | 215 lbs. | 9.6 MPG | 2.8 PPG | 0.8 APG | 66.7% FG | 50% 3 | 50% FT
Defensive specialist with no real offensive game to speak of. Quick and athletic. Very aggressive and can be caught on back-door cuts. Tendency to foul a ton.
C. Primoz Brezec | 7′1″ | 255 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Played in the Italian league last year. Nice touch for a big man. Slow and weak on the defensive end.
Offensive Tendencies:
One of the worst three point shooting teams last year. Kapono helps, but he is the only 3 point shooting threat. Must keep their 3 front-court off the glass on both sides of the court. Must keep AI from getting hot. Eddie Jordan will be implementing a Princeton-style offense this year. Expect a whole lot of movement.
Defensive Tendencies:
A lot of aggressive athletic players who like to take chances. Need to pump fake on both passes and shots. Backdoor cuts can work against these guys too.
Keys To Victory:
Get Brook touches inside. He can out muscle Dalembert and negate his athleticism. Keep AI from getting hot. Rebound! Don’t let Elton Brand get position inside. Close out on Kapono, make him put the ball on the floor. Must always know where he is, he is the only one who can hurt the Nets from three.
Game 7 Scouting Report
Nov 7, 2009 2009-2010 Regular Season, Nets vs. Celtics, Opponent Scouting Reports
Game 7 vs. Boston (6-1)
Projected Starting Lineup
1. Rajon Rondo | 6′1″ | 171 lbs. | 33 MPG | 9.9 PPG | 9.9 APG | 56.9% FG | 0% 3 | 50% FT
Not the best outside shooter, wants to use his speed to get in the lane. He can hit the floater and can finish in traffic. He also does a very good job of setting up his teammates once he gets into the lane. He is Solid defender who uses his length and speed well.
2. Ray Allen | 6′5″ | 205 lbs. | 34.3 MPG | 15.1 PPG | 2.9 APG | 46.1% FG | 37.5% 3| 85.7% FT
One of the league’s best shooters, and if starts hitting his range is 30 feet plus. Age has slowed him down a bit, so you want to close out hard on him, forcing him to put the ball on the floor. Average defender. Run him through a lot of screens in an attempt to tire him so he won’t be effective on the offensive end.
3. Paul Pierce | 6′7″ | 235 lbs. | 35 MPG | 19.1 PPG | 5.7 RPG | 50% FG | 51.6% 3 | 85.7% FT
Boston’s captain and best player. Can hit the three, but would much rather pump fake, take one dribble, and hit the pull up jumper. Not the fastest SF, so you want use your speed against him when on offense. Clutch. If the game is close, he is taking the shot.
4. Kevin Garnett | 6′11″ | 273 lbs. | 30 MPG | 13.4 PPG | 7.6 RPG | 50.6% FG | 0% 3 | 54.5% FT
Celtics emotional leader. DO NOT give him a reason to get fired up…because if he is, all bets are off. Great from 15 feet in with a terrific back to the basket game. Must attempt to be physical with him. On offense we need to try and stretch him out and lure him out of the lane so he can’t help on the drive.
5. Kendrick Perkins | 6′10″ | 280 lbs. | 26 MPG | 9.6 PPG | 5.7 RPG | 62.2% FG | 0% 3 | 55% FT
Must keep a body on him and keep him off of the offensive glass. His offensive game is limited to inside of 10 feet. On defense, he is a shot blocker. Pump fake him and get him into foul trouble…he tends to pick up a lot of fouls.
Bench
G. Marquis Daniels | 6′6″ | 200 lbs. | 21.7 MPG | 5.7 PPG | 2.9 APG | 47.1% | 25% 3 | 53.8% FT
Capable scorer, your generic backup PG. Compliments Rajon Rondo very nicely. A better shooter than Rondo, but not as quick. He has eased into this team’s backup PG role.
F. Rasheed Wallace | 6′11″ | 230 lbs. | 21.6 MPG | 10.7 PPG | 4.6 RPG | 41.5 FG | 37% 3 | 66.7 FT
Rasheed is probably one of the most talented players in the league, but he is way too passive at times. He can hit the 3 ball, can hit the midrange jumper, and can play with his back to the basket. Maybe the only flaw in his game is his handle. You must make him put the ball on the floor!
G. Shelden Williams | 6′9″ | 250 lbs. | 16.3 MPG | 6.7 PPG |5.4 RPG | 59.1% FG | 0% 3 | 84% FT
Undersized center in college trying to play forward. Has been hitting the defensive boards pretty well, proving himself to be a pretty nice acquisition.
G. Eddie House | 6′1″ | 175 lbs. | 17.7 MPG | 7.7 PPG | 1.3 APG | 47.6% FG | 46.2% 3 | 100% FT
Shooter. That is it, close out hard on him, and he won’t even drive, he will just pass. When he catches the ball, it is either straight shoot of the catch, one dribble and shoot, or one dribble and pass. Knows his limitations and doesn’t try to play beyond itself.
G. Lester Hudson | 6′3″ | 190 lbs. | 9 MPG | 3 PPG | 1.3 APG | 60% FG | 100% 3 | 50% FT
Unsigned draft pick who made the Celtics roster after a very strong preseason. He is showing himself to be a capable shooter, but all of his minutes have come in blowouts, hasn’t been in a close game, so if he gets in pressure him. He may not be able to handle it.
G. J.R. Giddens | 6′5″ | 215 lbs. | 4.5 MPG | .5 PPG | .3 APG | 33.3% FG | 0% FT | 0% FT
Athletic wing.
F. Brian Scalabrine | 6′9″ | 235 lbs. | 4.5 MPG | 2.5 PPG | 0 RPG | 100% FG | 100% 3 | 0% FT
Generic white guy on the bench
F. Glen Davis | 6′9″ | 289 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Out. Fisticuffs.
G./F. Tony Allen | 6′4″ | 213 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Out.
G/F. Bill Walker | No preseason stats
Out.
Offensive Tendencies:
A lot of good options on offense, they have guys who can score from outside, score from inside. A set they like to run is ISO Pierce at the high post and give it to him and watch him work. If you see Pierce starting to set up there, deny him hard. Force him away from his sweet spot.
Defensive Tendencies:
Besides Rondo, speed is an issue. Must use your quickness to get around the defenders.
Keys To Victory:
Hope that Boston’s best 6 players are having off nights offensively. Playing in the second night of a back to back, and with some injuries they look to be thin. Try to get them into foul trouble.

1. Louis Williams | 6′1″ | 175 lbs. | 34.5 MPG | 17.0 PPG | 5.0 APG | 55.8% FT | 30% 3 | 81% FT
Not a pure PG, but somewhat effective when he is running the point. Learning the position this year. Looks to outquick defenders to get into the lane. Solid albeit streaky shooter. Must be physical with him.
2. Andre Iguodala | 6′6″ | 207 lbs. | 38.5 MPG | 19.0 PPG | 6.0 APG | 48.3% FG | 30% 3 | 74% FT
| 28 MPG | 14.3 PPG | 3.3 RPG | 43% FG | 10% 3 | 82.4% FT
| 31 MPG | 11.8 PPG | 5.8 RPG | 45.9% FG | 0% 3 | 86.7% FT
| 23.3 MPG | 8 PPG | 6.5 RPG | 47.6% FG | 0% 3 | 80% FT
| 23.3 MPG | 14 PPG | 7.8 RPG | 60% FG | 0 3 | 82.4 FT

G/F. Jason Kapono | 6′7″ | 215 lbs. | 19.5 MPG | 8 PPG | 1.8 RPG | 50% FG | 41.7% 3 | 84.1% FT
One of the league’s best 3 point shooters. Has 30-foot range. Need to stick with him and can’t help off of him. Doesn’t do much besides shoot, so close hard and make him put it on the floor.
F. Jason Smith | 7′0″ | 240 lbs. | 11 MPG | 1.7 PPG | 1.7 RPG | 16.7% FG | 33.3% 3 | 50% FT
Missed all of last year with a knee injury. Can play either the PF or C spot. Has a nice back to the basket game and a nice touch on his mid-range shot.
G/F. Rodney Carney | 6′7″ | 205 lbs. | 10.3 MPG | 3.7 PPG | 1.7 RPG | 36 FG | 28.6% 3 | 50 FT

G. Jrue Holiday | 6′3″ | 180 lbs. | 9.5 MPG | 3.5 PPG | 1.5 APG | 100% FG | 100% 3 | 0% FT

Game 5 Scouting Report
Nov 4, 2009 Nets vs. Nuggets, Opponent Scouting Reports
Game 5 vs. Denver (4-0)
Projected Starting Lineup
1. Chauncey Billups | 6′3″ | 202 lbs. | 35.8 MPG | 23 PPG | 6.7 APG | 43.1 FG | 48.1 3 | 88.2 FT
Strong physical guard with a knack to knock down the big shot. He is terrific at using his size to get his defender off balance, and then he can rise above them to get a shot off. Also a great passer and defender. Lost some speed with age.
2. Anthony Carter | 6′2″ | 195 lbs. | 22.5 MPG | 4.8 PPG | 3.3 APG | 38.8 FG | 42.9 3 | 100% FT
Starting until J.R. Smith returns. A decent shooter and average defender.
3. Carmelo Anthony | 6′8″ | 230 lbs. | 36.5 MPG | 34.5 PPG | 6.5 RPG | 50 FG | 45% 3 | 85% FT
Playing the best basketball of his life right now. He has put up some big numbers against good defensive teams. Likes to work in the post, but is a good jump shooter and can take the ball to the basket.
4. Kenyon Martin | 6′9″ | 240 lbs. | 35 MPG | 10.5 PPG | 6.5 RPG | 50% FG | 0% 3 | 25% FT
Hey, this guy looks familiar. Still crashes the boards hard and plays very physical. Can hit from 15 every once in a while. If he is on, he will be a pain to stop, because he will start pump faking, taking one dribble, and going hard at the basket.
5. Nenê | 6′10″ | 250 lbs. | 35 MPG | 14.3 PPG | 9.8 RPG | 55.8% FG | 0% 3 | 63% FT
Nene is a tough guy inside, but he has a nice touch and a polished post game. Even though he’s not a great leaper, Nenê is a terrific athlete for a center. He’s fast afoot and extremely quick when making moves at the basket, which is the main reason his foul-drawing rate is so high. He is a better help defender than a on the ball defender.
Bench
F/C. Chris Anderson | 6′10″ | 288 lbs. | 22 MPG | 6.3 PPG | 7 RPG | 47% FG | 0% 3 | 82% FT
A high energy guy who gets the crowd going or shuts them up (on the road) with his big blocks and dunks. He is a great rebounder, and he really gets the fast break going, and if he doesn’t he is usually finishing them.
G. Arron Afflalo | 6′5″ | 215 lbs. | 19.8 MPG | 6.3 PPG | 1.8 APG | 45.5% FG | 40% 3 | 100% FT
Arron Afflalo seems to be the Nuggets younger, longer, and more athletic version of Dahntay Jones. He can also play a little better on offense instead of Jones. Actually if you look at 82games.com opponent PER figures and plus-minus data, they say that Afflalo is a better defender.
G. Ty Lawson | 5′11″ | 195 lbs. | 19.5 MPG | 9 PPG | 2.3 APG | 50% FG | 40% 3 | 85.7% FT
Lawson’s game translates well to the pro level despite his height because of exceptional athletic indicators. As a Tar Heel, Lawson was a very efficient scorer and dynamic playmaker who excelled in Roy Williams’ frenetic style. As such, he’ll fit right in with the Nuggets.
G. Joey Graham | 6′7 | 225 lbs. | 10.8 MPG | 4 PPG | .3 APG | 50% FG | o% 3 | 85.7% FT
Graham rebounds well for a small forward and is a great finisher at the rim, but he generates few blocks or steals. He doesn’t have a solid outside game either.
F. Malik Allen | 6′10″ | 255 lbs. | 8 MPG | 4 PPG | 1 RPG | 50% FG | 0% 3 | 0% FT
A PF who doesn’t really go inside and he ends up settling for a good amount of jumpers.

Offensive Tendencies:
This team likes to run, and they have the personnel for it. They use Carmelo in ISO sets on different spots in the court. They do it on the low block and at the high post. They also run the pick and roll for Billups a good amount.
Defensive Tendencies:
After what seems like years of pleading from coach George Karl, this team is finally starting to play defense. They got a few good off the ball shot blockers, and they like to go for those blocks, using them to start fast breaks.
Keys To Victory:
Find a way to stop Carmelo. If we let Carmelo get his, we can’t let anyone else go off. Allow everyone but Carmelo/Billups to shoot the three. Without J.R. Smith (suspended), this team is lacking a consistent shooter from 3. Close hard on everyone and let Brook handle them if they get past the outside defender.
Game 3 Scouting Report
Oct 31, 2009 Nets vs. Wizards, Opponent Scouting Reports
Game 3 @ Washington (1-1)
Projected Starting Lineup
1. Gilbert Arenas | 6′4″ | 215 lbs | 38.0 MPG | 26.0 PPG | 6.5 APG | 44.1% FG | 40% 3 | 76.9% FT
Had a great return from injury Wed. night, and was a little less successful last night. He still shot the ball well and got his points, but he was very loose with the ball, resulting in 7 T/Os. Plays the point, but has a score first mentality, and when Foye is the game, he slides to the 2. He is showing no signs of knee surgery and has been slashing the lane at will. The problem if you lay off of him though is that he can shoot the three, and shoot it well.
2. Mike Miller | 6′8″ | 218 lbs. | 27.5 MPG | 6.5 PPG | 3.5 APG | 55.5% FG | 66.7% 3 | 50% FT
A terrific shooter and a terrific passer. Knows Flip Saunders’ offense well. Lacks athleticism, which means that he isn’t the best defender. Must attack him with the dribble.
3. Nick Young | 6′6″ | 200 lbs. | 13 MPG | 0 PPG | 1 RPG | 0% FG | 0% 3 | 0% FT
Just a guess here, Caron Butler hurt his knee at the end of the first half last night, and didn’t return. Nick Young took his place, and he didn’t play well. I think Flip Saunders will give him another shot. He was forcing shots and has been playing out of control his whole career so far. His brief look last night showed more of the same.
4. Fabricio Oberto | 6′10″ | 245 lbs. | 17.5 MPG | 4.5 PPG | 3 RPG | 100% FG | 0% 3 | 100% FT
Despite not blocking many shots, Oberto is a terrific defender in the post and he is willing to bang, and take the charge. A smart player who doesn’t force himself into bad shots, this leads to a high FG percentage.
5. Brendan Haywood | 7′0″ | 263 lbs. | 36 MPG | 13 PPG | 9.5 RPG | 45.4% FG | 0% 3 | 66.7% FT
A good defender who understands how to help and generally has a good knowledge of the game. This knowledge allows him to be in the right spot, leading to numerous blocks. Offensively, he plays within the team strategy, and this allows him to stay on the court and be productive. A very good foul shooter.
Bench
F/C. Andray Blatche | 6′11″ | 248 lbs. | 34.5 MPG | 16.5 PPG | 6.5 RPG |61.9 FG | 0 3 | 77.7 FT
He’s phased the three out of his game and is not an effective midrange jump shooter, so now Blatche’s skill set is pretty typical of an athletic young big man with the exception of the fact that he is an excellent passer. Defensively, his quickness helps him generate plenty of steals for a post player, and he’s also a capable shot-blocker. According to BasketballValue.com, the Wizards allowed 5.2 fewer points per 100 possessions with Blatche on the floor. You attack him by posting him up, getting into his body and trying to score on him. He can pick up a lot of fouls like that.
G. Randy Foye | 6′4″ | 213 lbs. | 30 MPG | 14 PPG | 2.5 RPG | 42.3% FG | 33.3% 3 | 100% FT
A tough finisher at the rim who is basically stuck in between positions. He isn’t quick enough to be a point, and he isn’t big enough to be a 2. He wants to drive though, so you are better off letting him shoot the basketball.
G. DeShawn Stevenson | 6′5″ | 218 lbs. | 14.5 MPG | 1 PPG | 1.5 APG | 33.3% FG | 0% 3 | 0% FT
Stevenson is a guy who likes to camp around the 3 point line and shoot when he is open. I don’t know if he still waves his hand in front of his face when he makes threes.
C. JaVale McGee | 7′0 | 237 lbs. |5.5 MPG | 3.5 PPG | 1 RPG | 75% FG | o% 3 | 50% FT
One of the most athletic big men I have ever seen. Can jump through the roof, whether he can translate this ability to the basketball court is the question. Think of him like Sean Williams without the temper and a little more basketball IQ.

Offensive Tendencies:
From time to time, this team kind of just likes to watch Gilbert Arenas work with the ball. This team is full of young athletic talent, and sometimes they get into streaks where they just take bad shots. With Caron Butler out, Nick Young is a big key for them. If he is playing smart and attacking the basket, he makes this team hard to stop. If he is forcing jumpers, there is nothing to worry about.
Defensive Tendencies:
Fabricio Oberto and Brendan Haywood are good defenders in the post, and the guards kind of lean on them as a crutch. Gilbert is as good as he wants to be on defense, and Nick Young still needs some seasoning on the defensive end. Mike Miller is slower than most SGs, so the best chance the Nets have is attacking him.
Keys To Victory:
Must not let Gilbert Arenas go off. When he is on, it is a beautiful thing to watch, I don’t want to see it tomorrow. Force them into tough shots, and attack the basket. They like to get into the lane, so don’t close out too hard, because they will blow by you on defense.
Game 2 Scouting Report
Oct 30, 2009 Nets vs. Magic, Opponent Scouting Reports
Game 2 @ Orlando (1-0)
Projected Starting Lineup
1. Jameer Nelson | 6′0″ | 183 lbs | 21.0 MPG | 7.0 PPG | 6.0 APG | 50% FG | 50% 3 | 0% FT
| 26.0 MPG | 15.0 PPG | 3.0 APG | 41.7% FG | 60% 3 | 100% FT
3. Mickael Pietrus | 6′6″ | 198 lbs. | 30 MPG | 13 PPG | 4 RPG | 45.5% FG | 50% 3 | 100% FT
4. Ryan Anderson | 6′10″ | 240 lbs. | 25 MPG | 16 PPG | 5 RPG | 50% FG | 57.1% 3 | 100% FT
Another Net castoff. A terrific 3 point shooter who if open will make it. He uses his height to get shots over smaller defenders. You must close out HARD on Ryan. Force him to put the ball on the floor, that is where he is most uncomfortable, and you can force him into turnovers. Defensively, you need to take advantage of him on the post.
5. Dwight Howard | 6′11″ | 265 lbs. | 29 MPG | 21 PPG | 15 RPG | 81.8% FG | 0% 3 | 50% FT
Bench
G. Jason Williams | 6′1″ | 180 lbs. | 23 MPG | 15 PPG | 5 APG | 80% FG | 75% 3 | 100% FT
Experienced backup point who can do just about everything out there. He can get in the lane and create for others and he can knock down the three. Age has slowed him down a bit, and you need to attack him when he is on the defensive end. Force the coaching staff to take him out because of his lack of offense.
F. Brandon Bass | 6′8″ | 250 lbs. | 23 MPG | 8 PPG | 4 RPG | 57.1% FG | 0% 3 | 0% FT
Physical banger inside. High-motor guy who despite being a little undersized can attack the glass. Great offensively in the post, and will outwork you there.
G. J.J. Redick | 6′4″ | 190 lbs. | 22 MPG | 10 PPG | 4 APG | 66.7% FG | 50% 3 | 0% FT
Knock down shooter. Can’t leave him open, like Ryan Anderson, you need to close out hard on him and make him dribble.
C. Marcin Gortat | 19 MPG | 8 PPG | 5 RPG | 42.9% FG | o% 3 | 100% FT
Dwight Howard’s main backup. A solid player who can start for a number of teams, but he is backing up Dwight. He is a guy who can log serviceable minutes backing up Dwight.
G. Matt Barnes | 6′7″ | 226 lbs. | 18 MPG | 7 PPG | 2 RPG | 50% | 33.3 % FG | 0 % FT
Aggressive guy who can play defense with the best of them. Little surprised by his lack of minutes in game one. He can hit the three too.
F/C. Anthony Johnson | 6′3″ | 195 lbs. | 4 MPG | 0 PPG | 1 APG | 0% FG | 0% 3 | 0% FT
Journeyman backup point. With Jayson Williams now in Orlando, he won’t be getting too many minutes.
G. Linton Johnson IIIt | 6′8″ | 205 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
On the roster until Foyle gets back from injury.
F. Rashard Lewis | 6′10″ | 230 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Serving second of his 10 game suspension.
Game 1 Scouting Report
Oct 28, 2009 Nets vs. Timberwolves, Opponent Scouting Reports
Game 1 @ Minnesota (0-0)
Projected Starting Lineup
1. Jonny Flynn | 6′0″ | 185 lbs | No Regular Season Stats
Jonny Flynn is a small (height wise) PG, but his strength prevents him from being abused in the post. A quick guard you need to keep out of the paint, which is his strength. Good scorer and passer when he gets in the paint. Doesn’t factor much on the boards, no need to worry about him getting rebounds.
2. Corey Brewer | 6′9″ | 188 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Kid built in from the CDR mold. A lottery pick who has struggled during his first couple years in the league. Starting to look like he gets it, having a strong showing this preseason. Strong defender. Held opponents 4.8 percent below usual production last year. Not an offensive force, poor shooter, and he doesn’t usually finish when getting in the lane. We could probably match CDR on Brewer.
3. Damien Wilkins | 6′6″ | 225 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Capable 3 point shooter, who struggled from 2 last year. Average defender. Minnesota’s version of Jarvis Hayes. We can’t let him get open looks, but other than that, he shouldn’t be too much of a factor.
4. Ryan Gomes | 6′7″ | 240 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
One of those PF/SF hybrids who was supposed to be playing SF this year before the injury to Kevin Love. Doesn’t really like to go inside as he gets most of his shots from the outside. He is a good shooter who can hit the 3 when he is open. A weaker defender.
5. Al Jefferson | 6′10″ | 265 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Al Jefferson turned into a terrific scorer and rebounder before getting hurt last year. It seems that he is starting to learn how to play the position. Coming off ACL surgery and a quick rehab, so that may lead him to be hesitant. Poor instincts on the defensive end, he doesn’t really help well. He can sometimes get bodied by bigger centers.
Bench
G. Ramon Sessions | 6′3″ | 190 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
A terrific true point off the bench. Had the 12th best assist rate in the NBA last year. Like Flynn he is best when he gets into the lane, and when he does he can either dish or score. Not the best outside shooter, so give him room and let him shoot.
G. Wayne Ellington | 6′4″ | 200 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
A terrific shooter. Can’t leave him, or help off him on penetration.
F/C. Ryan Hollins | 7′0″ | 230 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Got some playoff minutes and performed well last year. A shot-blocker who is the Timberwolves defensive big man. Limited strength and size allows him to be thrown around. When the ball goes up, get your body into him and box out, he won’t get the rebound.
G. Jason Hart | 6′3″ | 180 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
A third point guard who should only get minutes if Flynn or Sessions is in foul trouble.
F. Nathan Jawai | 6′10″ | 280 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Played in 6 games for Toronto last year getting 3.2 minutes a game…that’s all I got…
F. Brian Cardinal | 6′8″ | 240 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Generic end of the bench white guy.
G/F. Aleksandar Pavlovic | 6′7″ | 235 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Pavlovic had one break-out year a few years ago but he has seen his minutes decrease since. A good option off of the bench.
C. Mark Blount | 7′0″ | 250 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Journeyman who was with the Heat last year.
C. Oleksiy Pecherov | 7′0″ | 234 | No Regular Season Stats
Outside shooting big man in the Andrea Bargnani mode.
F/C. Kevin Love | 6′10″ | 260 lbs. | No Regular Season Stats
Out.
Offensive Tendencies:
With quick PGs, they like to penetrate and either kick or finish. They have a solid shooter in Ellington who will probably stand on the wing while the penetration happens. Expect Jefferson to get the ball a lot, before his injury, Jefferson had one of the highest usage rates in the NBA, getting the ball on 30% of the Wolves possessions last year.
Defensive Tendencies:
The Wolves are smallish in the frontcourt, so they like to pressure the guards so that they can’t make an easy pass into the post.
Keys To Victory:
Keep the ball out of Jefferson’s hands. Take advantage of the small frontcourt and attack the glass. Keep the Wolves quick PGs out of the lane. Don’t let Ellington get out. Get the ball to Brook inside.

Projected Starting Lineup
1. Louis Williams | 6′1″ | 175 lbs. | 23.5 MPG | 12.5 PPG | 2.0 APG | 67% FT | 40% 3 | 100% FT
Not a pure PG, but somewhat effective when he is running the point. Learning the position this year. Looks to outquick defenders to get into the lane. Solid albeit streaky shooter. Must be physical with him.
2. Andre Iguodala | 6′6″ | 207 lbs. | 25 MPG | 12.0 PPG | 6.0 APG | 58.3 FG | 42.9 3 | 87.5 FT
| 27.5 MPG | 8.5 PPG | 0.00 RPG | 43.8 FG | 33.3% 3 | 100 FT
| 22 MPG | 8.5 PPG | 5.5 RPG | 46.2 FG | 0.00 3 | 83.3 FT
| 21.5 MPG | 10.0 PPG | 6.5 RPG | 53.3 FG | 0.0 3 | 66.7 FT
Not really an offensive threat from outside of 10 feet. Struggles to hit from inside 10 feet as well. Slow feet. Can be taken advantage of in the pick and roll set. Great timing and shot blocking ability though, must pump fake him! Terrific defensive rebounder.
Bench
G. Willie Green | 6′3″ | 200 lbs. | 12 MPG | 5.5 PPG | 2.5 APG | 44.4% FG | 50.o% FG | 50.0% FT
Not a true point either, but the truest point on the Sixers. If they struggle getting into the offense, Green will come in off the bench to try and settle things. Hard worker on defense, but he lacks the quicks to stay in front of his man from time to time.
G/F. Jason Kapono | 6′7″ | 215 lbs. | 12.0 MPG | 7.0 PPG | 3.0 APG | 50% FG | 40% 3 | 100% FT
One of the league’s best 3 point shooters. Has 30-foot range. Need to stick with him and can’t help off of him. Doesn’t do much besides shoot, so close hard and make him put it on the floor.
G. Jrue Holiday | 6′3″ | 180 lbs. | Rookie: No professional stats
Wildcard. Athletic and quick, but is an inconsistent shooter and he sometimes is a little loose with the basketball.
F/C. Marreese Speights | 6′10″ | 245 lbs. | 22.5 MPG | 9 PPG | 9 RPG | 31.6 FG | 0.00 3 | 85.7 FT
We should all be familiar with this guy from summer league. Possesses a great athletic ability for his size, and when he is hitting his shot he is tough to stop. Needs to take a lot of shots to put up his numbers. Good shot blocker, you can pump fake him though. He has shown to be foul-prone.
F. Jason Smith | 7′0″ | 240 lbs. | 20 MPG | 3.5 PPG | 4.5 RPG | 25% FG | 20% 3 | 0% FT
Missed all of last year with a knee injury. Can play either the PF or C spot. Has a nice back to the basket game and a nice touch on his mid-range shot.
G. Royal Ivey | 6′4″ | 215 lbs. | 16.0 MPG | 4.5 PPG | 2.0 APG | 28.6 FG% | 0.0 3% | 83.3 FT
Defensive specialist with no real offensive game to speak of. Quick and athletic. Very aggressive and can be caught on back-door cuts. Tendency to foul a ton.
G. Dionte Christmas | 6′5″ | 205 lbs. | 9.0 MPG | 3.0 PPG | 1.0 APG | 0.0 FG% | 0.0 3% | 75 FT%
Terrific 3 point shooter who when gets hot can’t miss.
C. Primoz Brezec | 7′1″ | 255 lbs. | 8.0 MPG | 2.0 PPG | 2.0 RPG | 33.3 FG | 0.0 3 | 0.0 FT
Played in the Italian league last year. Nice touch for a big man. Slow and weak on the defensive end.
F. Brandon Bowman | 6′9″ | 225 | 17.0 MPG | 9.0 PPG | 4.0 RPG | 66.7 FG | 0.0 3 | 50.0 FT
D-League call up who is playing well. Maybe well enough to make the roster…
G/F. Rodney Carney | 6′7″ | 205 lbs. | No Preseason Stats
Out.

Projected Starting Lineup
1. Chris Duhon: 6′1″ | 185 lbs | 36.8 MPG | 11.1 PPG | 7.2 APG | 42.1 FG% | 39.1 3% | 85.6 FT%
Pure point guard, looking to set up his teammates at all times. Can’t leave him open though, hits open shots. Streaky shooter…if he starts hitting, watch out.
2. F. Wilson Chandler – 6′8″ | 220 lbs. | 24.3 MPG | 13.3 PPG | 2.0 APG | 41.7 FG | 27.8 3 | 45.5 FT
He is a physical 2/3 hybrid who is a solid shooter but is more comfortable attacking the basket. You can beat him offensively with quickness.
3. Al Harrington: 6′9″ | 250 lbs | 35.0 MPG | 20.7 PPG | 6.3 RPG | 44.6 FG% | 36.2 3% | 80.4 FT%
A guard in a big man’s body. He can handle the ball, he is a good shooter, and he can run on the break. I would like to see CDR covering him, as I think his lankiness will disrupt him a bit.
4. F. Jarred Jeffries: 6′10″ | 240 lbs | 23.0 MPG | 5.3 PPG | 4.4 RPG | 43.2 FG | 24.2 3 | 58.6 FT
Big guy who feasts from the wing and the baseline at around 15/20 feet. Awful free throw shooter, and if he is attacking the lane, just foul him. Poor 3 point shooter very good 3 point shooter against the Nets.
5. David Lee: 6′9″ | 240 lbs | 34.9 MPG | 16.0 PPG | 11.7 RPG | 54.9 FG% | 0.00 3% | 75.5 FT%
Another offensive rebounding machine. Brook should be able to handle him though. Likes to live around the basket (which results in the ridiculously high FG%). Must be physical with him and push him away from the basket. On offense, we need to take advantage of his lack of size (for a center). Brook should be able to muscle in on him and get some easy baskets.
Projected Bench
G. Nate Robinson: 5′9″ | 180 lbs | 29.9 MPG | 17.2 PPG | 4.1 APG | 43.7 FG% | 32.5 3% | 84.1 FT
Crazy athletic. Shoot first mentality and also a streaky shooter. Taller guards must take advantage of him in the post. Must look out for him on the fast break…either in terms of attacking the basket or spotting up on the wing.
G/F. Danilo Gallinari: 6′10″ | 225 lbs | 14.7 MPG | 6.1 PPG | 2.0 RPG | 44.8 FG | 44.4 3 | 96.3 FT
Hurt a lot of last year. Has a feathery touch around the basket and is a fantastic shooter built in the Dirk mode. Not tough or exceptionally quick though. Can be pushed around when on offense and when on defense whoever he is guarding needs to go after him. Hard.
G/F. Larry Hughes: 6′5″ | 185 lbs | 27.5 MPG | 11.2 PPG | 2.6 RPG | 39.0 FG | 38.5 3 | 79.4 FT
Streaky shoot first guard. Doesn’t attack the basket, and he shoots in bunches whether he made the last 10 or missed the last 10. Terrific defender despite losing a step, great on and off the ball defending and gets a good number of steals.
G. Toney Douglas: 6′1″ | 200 lbs | Rookie: No professional Stats
Hybrid guard who can play both guard spots. Strong with the ball and can get into the lane. Streaky shooter and a bunch scorer. Willing to find his open teammates though.
F/C. Darko Milicic: 7′0″ | 275 lbs | 17.2 MPG | 5.5 PPG | 4.0 RPG | 45.4 FG | 0.00 3 | 58.8 FT
Another poor foul shooter. If he has a lane, might as well foul him. More of a shooting big man than a banging inside big man, and he is effective on the break.
Jordan Hill: 6′10″ | 235 lbs | Rookie: No professional Stats
Jordan Hill is an offensive rebounding machine. I would like to see the Nets zone rebound (box out areas rather than players) to deal with him and David Lee, because I think Hill will eat Yi alive. Guards really need to help and pinch on him when boxing out. Offensively he can he the 10 footer, but that seems to be the limit of his range. On defense he is tough inside, but slow, Yi can take advantage of him on the outside.
G. Gabe Pruitt: 6′4″ | 170 lbs | 7.4 MPG | 2.0 PPG | 0.8 APG | 32.1 FG | 28.3 3 | 78.3 FT
Last name close to mine so awesome. Other than that generic back-up PG.
G. Sun Yue: 6′9″ | 205 lbs | 2.8 MPG | 0.6 PPG | 0.2 APG | 27.3 FG | 0.00 3 | 0.00 FT
TALL generic PG…from China…
F/C. Chris Hunter: 6′11″ | 240 lbs | Rookie: No professional Stats
Coming from the NBDL
G. Ron Howard: 6′5″ | 200 lbs | Rookie: No professional Stats
Coming from the NBDL…not to be confused with Richie Cunningham
G. Joe Crawford: 6′5″ | 210 lbs | Rookie: No professional Stats
Coming from the NBDL…not to be confused with official Joey Crawford
Warren Carter: ?? | ?? | Rookie: No professional Stats
Doesn’t have a NBA player page. Not related to Vince Carter…I think…

Offensive Tendencies:
This team likes to run, and will try to out score you rather than stop you. A lot of ball-hog type players who shoot first…keep them from getting hot and we should be ok…
Defensive Tendencies:
They don’t have any good defenders besides Larry Hughes. Undersized pretty much everywhere, so we need to take advantage of the size.
Keys To Victory:
Keep them from scoring over 100 points, if we can do that, they are so poor defensively we can outscore them. We need to keep them off the offensive glass and prevent their streaky shooters from getting hot. We also need to take advantage of their size and try to score inside.
