Quick Recap: Boston Celtics 96, New Jersey Nets 104
Feb 27, 2010 Nets vs. Celtics, Quick Recaps
After the Celtics exploded to a 12-2 lead, the game appeared to be over. However, the Nets took control from that moment forward and came away with a 104-96 win against the Boston Celtics (things got real hairy late).
- Courtney Lee put together his second straight 20+ point performance (first time as a Net) and played very well until he went out with an ankle injury.
- In addition to Courtney’s 21, Brook Lopez chipped in 25, and Devin Harris put up 23. This is the second straight time they all put up 20+.
- Kris Humphries only had 11 points, but he pulled in 10 rebounds and left Marv saying “This is his best game as a Net.”
- The Celtics got the Nets’ lead to 6 points when Ray Allen was given a wide open three. He missed it, and the Nets were able to pull away.
- Keyon Dooling put in 11 points as well, including 3 threes (including a very timely one in the fourth).
- In the third quarter, the Nets took two charges on Celtics’ fast breaks.
- CDR played a meaningful 27 minutes tonight, and maybe put this whole CDR-gate stuff to rest. He didn’t score a ton, but after Lee left the game, he played very good defense on Ray Allen.
- The only Net who had a poor game was Yi. In the fourth quarter he had a turnover and a missed shot, quickly getting pulled in favor of Kris Humphries.
Quick Recap: New Jersey Nets 92 – Detroit Pistons 99
Feb 6, 2010 Nets vs. Pistons, Quick Recaps
In a game that ended horribly, the Nets lost 99 to 92. The Pistons went crazy from three, but even with that, the Nets were able to take a lead late. The shot selection got poor again though, and the Nets were unable to stay with the Pistons.
- The Nets actually got the ball on the play where the Devin and Jarvis ran into each other. Kris Humphries got caught in the air and tried to pass it to one of the fallen Net. Both guys were on the floor, and it turned into a 3 on 1 break.
- Until the injuries, Kiki sat out Yi (who was struggling) the entire third quarter. Good to see he was coaching to win.
- After tying the game, the Nets had 2 well drawn up sets going. But a bad pass and a dropped ball lead to turnovers.
- The best shot the Nets got in the final few minutes was a Courtney Lee 3. There was a Brook 22 footer and a Humphries 18 footer when the Nets were down 2.
- Jonas Jerebko really made me look stupid for my pregame comments. 20 points while not missing a shot.
- Last night, we saw a player get hot late. Tonight, Charlie Villanueva got hot early. He hit 1 three, and then couldn’t miss. I don’t think he was looking one time.
- The Pistons are the worst 3 point shooting team in the NBA (shooting under 30%). Tonight they shot 67%.
Quick Recap: Atlanta Hawks 130, New Jersey Nets 107
Dec 13, 2009 2009-2010 Regular Season, Nets vs. Hawks, Quick Recaps
The Nets (2-22) looked good for the first 12 minutes tonight, but were inevitably picked apart by the Hawks (17-6), losing 130-107 in Atlanta.
- The Nets actually looked pretty good offensively tonight, scoring 107 points on 50.6 percent shooting, but there was little effort on the defensive end, as they gave up 130 points to the Hawks.
- How do you shoot more than 50 percent and still lose by 23 points? Well, it starts by getting outrebounded 51-38. Then consider the Hawks were 11-17 from three, compared with 5-10 for the Nets, and Atlanta also was 21-29 from the free throw line, compared with 14-19 for the Nets.
- Devin Harris may have had his best game of the season so far with 23 points and 9 assists on 9-18 shooting.
- Another solid night for Brook Lopez with 19 points and 12 reboundso n 8-12 shooting.
- Terrence Williams looked solid off the bench, scoring 18 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. Most importantly, he scored most of his points in the paint, and was 2-5 from outside of 15 feet.
- Rafer Alston had another miserable game with two points on 0-8 shooting in 23 minutes of action backing up Devin Harris.
- Trenton Hassell taking the place of Chris Douglas-Roberts had an efficient 13 points on 6-6 shooting.
- Maurice Evans led all Hawks scorers with 22 points. Free agent to be Joe Johnson chipped in 21 points and 10 assists.
- Sean Williams got 7+minutes of garbage time tonight and managed to record 3 blocks.
Quick Recap: LA Lakers 106 New Jersey Nets 87
Nov 30, 2009 Nets vs. Lakers, Quick Recaps
So that wasn’t as bad as expected, I guess that is a good thing. After a first half where the Nets only scored 34 points, I was thinking the Nets could threaten the record for fewest points in a game (Like the Nets are going to need to break anymore records of awfulness). Since there has been so much negative today (the Lawrence Frank firing, the tying of the record) I am going to focus on the positives as much as I can in the bullets:
- Courtney Lee looked good. I mean real good. Maybe it is because he played so poorly this season, but he looked to be at 100%. He had a bounce in his step, and he was attacking the hoop. Plus, he was hitting his shot. He went for 15 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 6-9, including a three.
- Brook Lopez was a monster out there tonight. 26 and 12. He was getting to the line and he made those shots.
- Rafer Alston (despite playing awful) showed some heart at the end, giving up a hard foul at the end of the game when Shannon Brown spotted up for a 3 with little time left.
- Guys were still hustling out there late into the game, and that was good to see. Sean Williams was still all over the court, and even Devin was diving for loose balls with under 2 minutes left in the game.
- Devin Harris was hitting the 3 tonight, going 3-6 from deep and finishing with 16 points and 6 assists.
- Terrence Williams had a great play late in the third where he attacked the basket with a mean crossover and finished with a dunk. He needs to do that more.
