NetsAreScorching Mailbag: Coming Soon
Aug 5, 2010 Updates
OK guys, I have seen the success that some blogs have had doing mailbags, and I figured that NetsAreScorching should get involved and do one too. Every Monday, a NetsAreScorching writer is going to take your questions and answer them (I will be handling the first one, and we will try to let you know who is covering which we so you guys can ask more specific questions).
For this to be successful we need help from you guys. I have been hesitant about doing these types of mailbags in the past because I am scared of not getting any e-mails, but with the increase in comments, I am confident that this can be successful.
So send any questions you guys may have to mailbag@netsarescorching.com. Thanks guys!
NAS Programming Note
Jun 29, 2010 Updates
So, with the entire NBA focused on the kick-off of free agency on Thursday, starting this morning, the Nets Are Scorching Fab Four will be breaking down the potential free agents, weighing the pros and cons and giving you our ultimate opinions. Obviously, we encourage you to debate our breakdowns and debate each other on who’s the best long-term fit for this team, but when doing so, please remember our trusty commenting constitution. This is going to be a fun few weeks for the NBA and for the Nets, and hopefully when the dust settles, there will be some news we can all celebrate. But in the meantime, let’s keep it clean.
NetsAreScorching And The Draft Tonight
Jun 24, 2010 2010 Draft, Updates
We here at NetsAreScorching are going to be covering the draft a few different ways tonight. Most importantly, we are going to be at the draft as a credentialed member of the media, as Dennis Velasco will be at the draft doing his thing. Look for some stuff from him tomorrow. The rest of us will be participating in a Nets oriented live-chat here on NetsAreScorching. The draft will start at 7, so make sure you check it out. Also, Devin Kharpertian will be meeting Derrick Favors for a media-day thing in New York today before the draft, so expect something from Devin on him before the draft tonight.
We aren’t done yet. If you want a more NBA-themed draft chat, well we got you covered. Over at ESPN there will be a Daily Dime Live tonight, and I will be heading there during the Nets picks to discuss their picks. So if you want to follow the Nets and their draft, NetsAreScorching.com is the place to be.
Also, I did a little something for Dime on the Nets and the draft. You can find it here.
Revisiting The Commenting Constitution
Jun 21, 2010 Updates
OK everyone, this Favors vs. Cousins debate has kind of turned the comments into mush. So before we get to the draft, I just wanted to remind everyone to take another look at the commenting constitution. Specifically the section about being “that guy”
5. Don’t be what Dave from the Blazers’ Edge calls THAT GUY. Allow him to explain:
* He posts something and then responds to every…single…comment with an overly-defensive comment of his own, not letting people have real conversation about his points. It’s fine for people to disagree. In fact debate makes the best conversations. If you don’t want anybody to disagree with what you’ve written, go to Hallmark, buy a journal, and write your thoughts there. If you write them here, give people some space to reply with good, solid points of their own.
* He talks about the person posting instead of the post and its points/ideas. This is completely unnecessary. Hint: Limit the use of the word “you” in your posts. “You’re an idiot if you think LeBron will be traded. Cleveland values him too much…” should be just “Cleveland values LeBron too much to trade him.”
* He begins posts with phrases like, “If you had actually watched the game…” or “If you knew anything about basketball…” These are inflammatory and again unnecessary. It’s possible that people actually did watch the game and simply saw something different than you did.
* He makes comparisons between basketball matters and things FAR beyond their scope, things in such poor taste that the mere mention of them obliterates any valid basketball-related conversation. (“The refs were the Nazis and we were the Jews tonight!”)
We all love the Nets and we all love discussing ways we think they will become better. Realize that you probably aren’t going to change anyone’s minds about something no matter how passionate you are (think about someone trying to change your stance on a topic). Let’s keep the comments fun to read/participate in.
Welcome Two New Writers
May 12, 2010 Updates
Here on NetsAreScorching.com, Mark and I have prided ourselves on getting a high number of quality content up. To be able to continue doing that, we have decided to add two new writers to the team, Dennis Velasco and Devin Kharpertian.
Some more info on Dennis:
Dennis Velasco grew up a New York Knicks fan in Queens, NY. Eventually, DV learned to love the NBA and not just Patrick Ewing and his out-of-control hyperhydrosis. DV figures if he and Jay-Z could both have roots with the Knicks and the latter can own part of the Nets, why can’t he blog about them? And don’t get it twisted, DV knows about the Nets. He’s had his ankles broken by Kenny Anderson in a pick-up game, thought Buck Williams was always underappreciated as a Net, to this day thinks Derrick Coleman’s “Whoop-dee-damn-doo” is one of the best sports quotes of all-time, and knows Drazen Petrovic could have been one of the best foreign players in the NBA ever. DV has written for SI.com, Yahoo!, SLAM, Hoops Hype, and The New York Times amongst many other places he’s fooled into thinking he writes good.
Some more info on Devin:
Devin Kharpertian is a fourth-year Division III student at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and if you don’t go to Hampshire you probably have no clue what that means. (In short: he’s on track.) Like most college students with no direction, Devin likes basketball and is in a band. They’re okay. Devin has been a die-hard Nets fan since the Knicks let him down in 1999, and despite being let down countless times by the Nets since then has still stuck by the team, watching every game possible (even this past season). A draft fanatic & also a Mets fan, Devin accurately calls himself a “sports masochist.” He welcomes any and all basketball discussion and can be reached at Devin.Kharpertian@netsarescorching.com
These guys are both really good writers, so expect to see their stuff up here soon. You will definitely enjoy it.
Apology For The Downtime
Feb 22, 2010 Updates
Guys, as you may have known, the site was down for a little over 24 hours starting Sunday morning. The issue was server where our domain was being hosted at got attacked. We are back up and running now, but I just wanted to apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused. I will have a Thoughts on the Game up for last night’s game soon, and starting tomorrow, we will be back on our regular schedule of content. Sorry again.
UPDATE: Devin’s Out Tonight
Oct 31, 2009 Injuries, Updates
According to Dave D, Devin is out tonight, and his status against Charlotte on Monday is up in the air as well. Maybe this is why he hasn’t been playing as well as some were expecting. More from Dave:
So they’re back to Plan B, with Rafer Alston starting against Gilbert Arenas, and Terrence Williams spelling Rafer at the point. The Wizards, of course, are without Antawn Jamison, and Caron Butler suffered a knee bruise at Atlanta Friday, so he’s also probably out.
You already know how I feel about Terrence playing the “true point” spot rather than the point forward spot, but at this point with Dooling and Devin both out, it is pretty much a necessity. Brook should be getting a lot more touches now.
Quick Programming Note
Oct 22, 2009 Updates
Some of you might have noticed that your comments were “eaten” by the site yesterday, and I just wanted to let you all know what happened. We were switching hosts to better serve you (and save some money in the process), and at some point, a few comments disappeared. Just wanted to let you guys know that you aren’t banned or the comments weren’t deleted because of rules violations.
Hopefully the commenting activity can continue to pick up!
Watch The Nets Workout TOMORROW AT 11
Sep 29, 2009 2009 Offseason, Updates
Quick Update #2:
NJnets.com is now stating that the webcast will be tomorrow at 11. Again NetsAreScorching will be watching and we will be giving you guys a breakdown of what we see. The site says: “Tune in tomorrow at 11 a.m. to see the Nets Training Camp live exclusively on njnets.com. We are experiencing technical difficulties, we are sorry for the inconvenience. “
Quick Update:
NJnets.com now says to tune in at 11:30 for live training camp video, so we got another 15 minutes or so…
—
With the Nets canceling media day yesterday, we as Nets’ fans got deprived of some of the great quotes and other stuff that the other teams got. All we got is this video and some pictures of everyone in their jerseys. Stuff like this:

So as Nets fans, we are just left in the dark right? Wrong. We get to see the Nets first official workout live. Head over to NJnets.com at 11, and you see a link to watch it. I will be watching, and if anything of note happens, I will be able to report it to you guys.
NetsAreScorching Update: Commenting Constitution, Salaries, and Stats
Aug 30, 2009 Updates
With the addition of this site to the Truehoop Network, and more recently with the addition of Mark, this site has grown to an extent I could have never imagined it would. In fact, just recently we surpassed 50,000 hits, and while that may not seem like a ton, we are only 4 months old, and we know this site is only going to get bigger.
With that being said, discussions are growing on the site as well, and that lead Mark and I to implement a commenting constitution. So whenever you have a chance, click the link up top and give it a read. Also, here at NetsAreScorching we are trying to become the one-stop shop for everything Nets related. This is why we instituted a salaries and stats section.
Lastly, I just wanted to thank you guys, the readers, for coming over every day, reading the blog, and adding your opinions to the discussions. That makes all of the work Mark and I put it worth it.
